access to positive wire on starter?

My positive wire on the starter looks like it's seen better days and i'd like to replace it with a bigger gauge to match the rest of the wiring so is there any possibly way to get a wrench on the positive post without having to drop the starter?? I'd hate to F with something that's worked great so far... access from the wheel well blows because with the dp in the way you can't get any kind of turn on the nut and from underneigh is a no go neither

Re: access to positive wire on starter?

disconnect the battery, remove the trans shield and pull down the starter. wire up a ford remote starter selenoid, and cover your new 2ga wire with some fire proof protective sleeving. sounds like a lot of work, but it is easier working on the starter when it is hanging down and not shoved up in between the frame rail and oil pan. if you leave the scatter shield off, dropping the starter down is as easy as loosening 2 bolts, and the main power wire going to the starter shouldnt be hot (only during cranking) if you do the remote selenoid :)

Yea decided to bite the bullet and drop the starter and shim... I ran my 2 gauge wiring to it and completely wrapped the wire with dei heat shielding. The crazy part is my starter is still the oem one lol so im sure now that i've f-d with it i'll be back under there once the nice bitter cold weather hits :)

Thanks for the info Mike
