Almost 10 second AWD Typhoon

I just got back from the racetrack.

1.671 60'
7.169 1/8th
97.16 mph
11.19 1/4
120.59 mph

Almost :(

I can't get a good 60' to save my life. That's the best I've ever gotten and that's with cal-tracs and 4 drag radials. It either dosn't leave with enough boost (around 5 psi) or leaves with too much boost (15 psi) and spins the tires till second gear. The boost comes on really fast after about 5 psi. I hooked up an MSD 2-step rev limiter but I haven't tried it out yet....I think that'll help.

It's obviously making tons of torque but the HP's low. I'm running 22 lbs of boost....I made a run today with 25 psi, then 29 psi but I don't think I have the ignition for that (blowing the spark out) and it pulls too much timing. Really anything more than 22-23 psi and it runs slower...maybe it would run faster with 20 psi. :x

I guess more tuning, alky injection, and some other tricks.

Damn, so close also...

That has to be one of the fastest if not the AWD typhoon. Congrats...

Nice pass. The trucks are coming alive this year, if everyone shows up were going to have some serious fun at nats.

yeah I think this is the fastest AWD Typhoon I have heard mention of.

Congrats, and it won't be much further.

Hopefully we see a 10 Sec AWD Ty and a 9 Sec AWD Sy at the Nats this year.

spanke's truck is like this at 23 psi it made only 5 more hp to the wheels while giving up like 80 foot lbs of torque VS. only 20 psi

I may have an answer for sy/ty ignition problems. I work at a rod and custom's shop, and there is a 69 AMC that has had an after market coil pack put on it. The system is like an LS1 ignition with a crank trigger and coils for each cylinder. It is easily tunded, has timming for initial start advance at 3000, advance at 8000, and rev limiter.

Shit, just remembered knock retard, it does not have it. You guys are pretty smart and can figure something out, so if you are iterested I will get info.

THe LS1 coil thing has been done.

I was hoping to get into the 10's with the T72....if I get the ball bearing T-76 back before next weekend maybe that'll do the trick.....and alki injection, and CO2 IC spraybar.

Nice Runs! John (WindedV6) has went 11.1 at 124 with a 1.68 60'. I think we should start betting on who will get in to the 10's first, since we have 3 or 4 now that are almost there.

Nice run....

Most of us with tys running low 11s are having the same problems with spark blowout at high boost. I tried a number of things and went with a hotter box, better wires and tried several different plug types. I hooked up with NGK and they had me try about six different plugs. Finally went with another brand. Running steady at 26# with no problems. It does take a very fine tuning at that boost. If your AR bounces around you will start breaking up on igintion.

I went to the track with my strongest tune with no missing for the the whole run. Ran a 11.4 @124.8 mph. They had street night and the track was dirty and no VHT. Best 0-60 was a 1.95.

Interesting was that my new mph 124.8 was the same as when I went 11.1 and had a 1.68 on the 0-60ft.

I suggest you find an ignition that works. Some of us are doing the MSD seven series. Also the autolite 103 plugs seem to work best for me.

Good Luck.

LS1 coils + eDist will be the end all for ignition woes. I bet you'll see more running this combination after the nats

Should be made easier in the future, if the Accel dual sync 4.3 distributor comes out and works.

cool deal.. can you get me some details? Curious on the signals and such, if they can be adjusted independently and whatnot. If you could get me this info, I could provide some detailed information for hooking it up for LS1 coil / eDist operation.

FWIW, I didn't see anything on the Mr.Gasket/Accel sites...

it provides a cam and crank signal (io belive hall effect), and it will work just fine with a edis application, we have used them on several other COPIS vehicles, I dont have any pictures and our new catalog is coming soon, just for you info the dual sync,a edis box froma ford v6 and a gen 7 will run a 4.3 sy motor beautiful. good spark to 7000, and no degrading of the ing signal.
