anyone try RC-meth with 15% nitro in alky kit?

did some searching and didn't really come up with much,

any testing done with it, would it have any potential to create more power when using it in either the gas tank or in a alky injection kit?

Figuring the additional methanol added to the engine with the added oxygen in the fuel, as long as it is rich, would there be room for gains, or would it just be bad news?

just thinking out loud, i might try some testing on a spare Briggs this week and doing a bit more research,
15% nitro doesn't seem like enough to really blow things up if tested, or is it?

It will blow white smoke out the exhaust like your burning oil.My 67 Datsun when i first got it 6 months ago would not stay running, put some 20% in the carb, just a cap full, started it,my front yard was full of smoke.Like i was driving my R/C cars.I wounld't try it in my sy.

You can buy 100% nitro @ hobby stores,or if they do not have it, they can order it for you.
The 100% does not have any oil in it.

When my friend & I used to race YSR's
He ran a stock class & ran mid pack w/about 15 others racers.
He added 2-3% Nitro to his gas tank & beat everyone by a good margin.
So,,,, in moderation nitro does work, but it is really hard on your bearings if you go too much. :2cents:

There's a reason the fuel guys tear the motors down on every pass.

Also... guess what happens if you spray an alky/nitro mix into the intake and you get a backfire for some reason...

Nitromethane is TNT's evil liquid cousin. Handle with care...

Yes, I Tried It

I added some 99.8% VP Racing Nitromethane to my SMC Alcohol a few years back. I've even mentioned it a few times here (search for "nitromethane" and they come right up) but nobody ever noticed or responded?

IMO it was the wildest test I ever put my truck through. Just obtaining the Nitro was no small task, took several months AFTER I found someone willing & able to sell. It cost me $50/gallon.

First I tried a mixture of 6.25% Nitro, remainder methanol. It didn't seem to have any effect?? I certainly did NOT see any leaning effect on the wideband, like you might think from that 50% oxygen contained in nitro. Tried a few things (running it excessively rich, changing timing) but could not get it to produce any noticeable power change at all.

Then I tried twice the mixture (12.5% Nitro) and I heard my engine ping for the first time ever. It still did not provide any noticeable power change. Shortly after that I decided to chalk this experiment up as a failure, or at least until I can find someone who really knows how to tune for nitro in such a bizarre application.

yeah kinda figured about it not being a good idea, tooky thanks thats exactly what i was looking for, i just had a jug laying around and got to thinking, anyway, probably just burn it in a bonfire or something.

OT how much you paying for pure meth these days, i need some for summer and the best i found was 5 bucks per gallon for a 5 gal drum. or a 5 gal for 50 bucks, ouch

12.5% is not enough to make a difference when injecting it from your alky injection stystem. That is not your main source of fuel for your engine.

Try a mixture of 50% Nitro & 50% methanol in your alky tank, then you will notice a bit of power. ;) :2cents:
