Re: Billet Hood Strut Kit GP

This GP is now officially finished. I want to thank everybody involved for helping to make this a success!

If there's more interest in the billet brackets, we can start a new GP for a 2nd batch. We would need 10 people for this new GP ($115 delivered). Otherwise the standard kit is always in stock ($95 delivered):

Re: Billet Hood Strut Kit GP

is there a way to unlock the strut? installed 10 minutes ago and tried to slowly lower the hood and i could hear my fiberglass hood start to crack.

before installing i did try to push down on the strut but it wouldn't budge. thought maybe the hood lowering would add more force to cause them to compress.

also, included bolts do not fit. i just re-used my original bolts. they are shorter but should werk.

We supply M8 stainless steel bolts with the kit, which work on my stock hood and my aftermarket metal cowl hood. Maybe your fiberglass hood uses something different for a threaded insert?

There is no "unlocking" feature for the struts, as they are a sealed unit. Did you verify the measurement and placement of the fender blocks?

yes, i verified measurement prior to installing fender blocks. i pulled off the wiper cowl and everything.

i pulled off the struts and slowly pushed downward with a folded towl to protect the ends and it took just about all my strength to get them to compress.

the bolts on my fiberglass hood are more narrow in diameter compared to the ones provided in your kit. the brackets are secured and is no longer a worry for me. thank you

btw, while i wasn't able to close my hood the ty looked really nice with your kit installed. hood up and no stock hood prop in the way

I'm pretty sure you'd need struts with less pressure for a 'glass hood. I know with spring type hood hinges you either have to get low tension springs or take them off and use a prop rod.

Re: Billet Hood Strut Kit GP

so, for the record i'm not 100% happy but i do not blame you. i'm not even upset because i know these things happen. i would just like to resolve my issue with the struts.

maybe i received steel hood struts instead of the glass hood struts or perhaps these are defective?

is it possible to get a partial refund just for the struts so i can try and find a pair that will werk for my hood?

is it possible to exchange these for another pair?

this does not deter my decision from buying any future products from you.

thank you

Re: Billet Hood Strut Kit GP

Hi i8av8,

Sorry for the delays in getting back....day job got in the way.

We've only shipped a few kits over the last year for "fiberglass" customers. We gave those customers the same struts as what you received and we haven't heard any complaints from anybody thus far. However, since all fiberglass is not created equal (# of layers = weight), it's easy to see that the force is too high for your specific application.

Send me back the 2 struts you received and I'll send you something with lower force that you can snap in place and evaluate.

Thanks,

Tim

At the end.. we're on the same team;) I agree. Looks really good. I also had a bit of complications installing it due to abs on one side and overflow tank on the other. Managed to make it work. Would still be nice to see others installed.

Re: Billet Hood Strut Kit GP

Question before I order, does the bottom (fender) bracket go to existing holes or do I have to drill for it? Thanks

Re: Billet Hood Strut Kit GP

The fender blocks have 2 sheet metal screws each that need to be drilled. The cnc'ed hood bracket uses existing bolts.

It's really impossible to try and use existing holes in the fender without having struts that are ridiculously long and in the way. This kit is designed to be discretely tucked away so you get maximum room to wrench on the motor......and you can't do that with existing bolt holes my friend.
