42 can be caused by the set timing connector (under the dash on RH side above passenger's foot) being disconnected to set timing, or just being intermittent.
If you've recently set the timing, clear the code, and see if it comes back.
Bingo! This is probably it, then.
Tan with a blk stripe. Single wire connector. Right above the top edge of the carpet. Breaks out of the main harness about 3" from where it goes into the engine compartment.
Make sure it's reconnected, and clear the code by removing ECM fuses. (its the one on the right of the pair).

why dont you just clear it and see if it comes back. did you maybe have the key on engine off while that connector was unplugged? or maybe just a burp in the system.
