Still shifting...
I'm sure most, if not all of you have seen the post from my dad, Jack (aka Icarus 54), from September about his situation we found out about in August, shortly after Carlisle. Unfortunately, as much as we would hope to never have to post this, my mom and I are very sad to say that we've lost my dad after his long fought battle with stage 4 mesothelioma on Tuesday morning, April 14, at 6:25 AM. He was 67 years old. Jack was one hell of a fighter, and we always made the joke that he was too damn stubborn to go. I'm sure alot of you here on the forum remember vividly about some of the conversations, stories, and ideas that he shared with you throughout the years, whether it was at NATS '13, our spring meets here at the house in PA, Wrenchfest, or even at Frank's place... and you knew from that day forward how intelligent, witty, and humorous he was. Dad was a tremendous out-of-the-box thinker, who's always been known for his off-the-wall inventions and mechanical ideas and solutions that have astounded many, both on and off the forum.
Most importantly, my dad was one hell of a supportive family man, and he was always there for my mom and I, and did everything he could to make sure we'd be alright in the past 8 months. Jack had the biggest heart of anyone, and most importantly, he always said what was on his mind, and he'd let you know what he thought about you. As he had said before, the SyTy forum is like a family, and over the years, he has had many great converstaions with alot of you guys on here, and he considered alot of you as his friends.
Jack was by far the best father I could've ever had... he's the wisest, most intelligent, most knowledgeable man that I'll most likely ever know in my life. I'm really glad that I was able to know him as my dad for almost 21 years. Both my mom and I had spent alot of time with him in the past year, but it always seems like no matter how much time we spent, it was never enough... My mom has lost her husband, her lover, her friend, her conversationalist, and her road buddy whenever they went out for a ride somewhere in the GMC's and the ZR1. I lost my father, my automotive mentor, my life mentor, an infinite wealth of knowledge, my huntin' buddy, and my best friend... We just brought him back home today from the creamatory, and his wish was that we threw a pinch of his ashes off the side of Jack's mountain, (the mountain here in Mt. Bethel he's hunted on since he was 9, and was eventually named after him when the county re-drew the maps), and that we keep the rest and put him in a Maxwell House coffee can, so mom has someone to gripe at whenever she watches the news channel. We just need to find the family size can so I can tape all of his ZR1, Syclone, Typhoon, and GT pictures on there...
We'd like to thank everyone for all of the best wishes, prayers, etc., and the enormous amount of support everyone has offered since my dad first announced that his time was limited. I promised him multiple times that I would take care of everything around the house, and with mom... or else he said he'll come back and kick my ass for sure... Big thanks to everyone on the forum on behalf of me and my mom for making this a great community for Jack to be a part of, and we hope to see some of you soon at Carlisle, circumstances permitting.
