Finally, slip attached

Into the 13's at almost 100. However, I’m not doing very well (lost in the first round) but the truck is doing a lot better. The difference is timing brought up to ‘0’ from a slight retard. (Dampener has been checked.) And the main ingredient; 10 gals of 100 octane gas on top of maybe 1/3 tank of 91.
Here’s the time slip:

And here’s the Datamaster from that run which looks pretty good I think. Still a lot for me to learn here.

Before next Wed. I’m gonna pull all the plugs (last time I only checked 2) before next week AND tipple check the timing. Still on the stock chip.

You need to work on your boosted launch, do you rev in neutral to build vacuum in the brakes?

Re: Finally, slip attached

No Kidding. I was just pleased to have the truck in the 13’s and real close to 100. This is a big jump from what it’s been doing. I’ve actually got some 1.8 60’ times so I know the truck can launch better.

Having the truck run well and having good technique are two different things. Part of my problem is time. I’m still working on staging, revving in neutral to set the brake, then build boost, all before the the third amber. The Infineon starter is real quick with the tree once both cars have staged. I lost in the first round Wed because the other car beat me to the line so as soon as I staged the tree came down giving me no time at all. I’m thinking that I might change to building boost at the pre-stage light and letting it creep into the stage light. Whatever, I’ve got to get better at it.

Another issue is dial-in. At Infineon the temp drops a lot as the sun goes down and, as you know, the truck runs much better at lower temps. So with 300+ cars we’re lucky to get 3 practice runs in before dial-in just as temps are starting down. (Last week we got in only 2 because so many cars were breaking and oiling the track.) So trying to pick a good number is interesting.

With the truck being stock you should not be the last to stage. Pull up and wait till the other guy is done with his burnout and get there first. With mine I do a awd burn out and still stage first.

Don W.,

Can't you just run Time Trials, instead of bracket class, so that your R/T doesn't mean crap and you can sit on the line as long as you want??

Re: Finally, slip attached

It costs $20.00 to get in plus another $40.00 or so for gas every other time so I’m there to win. With only 2, 3, or, very rarely 4, time trials before eliminations that’s expensive so I like to race. Last week was the first week I’ve been eliminated in the first round. Lately I’ve been getting down to the last 6 or 8 cars, once I was down to the last 4 out of prolly 100 in my class. ‘sides, because I’m running under 14 I just bought a helmet. Can’t let that thing go to waste.

So; technique, technique, technique. A work in progress you might say.

Normally yes, this time it was a WRX and he beat me to the line. I'll know better next time.
