Finnaly went to the track!!!

Well it sucked! It was HOT, first and best pass 13.35, 98mph, 1.87 60ft.
(2) 13.45, 97mph 1.93
(3) 13.65, 96mph 1.96

All passes 18 psi. on 93 octaine,17 deg timming. (NO KNOCK) I richen up the tables, made no diffrence.
Looking at the data, my intake temps where HOT 195 deg at end of every run.
Found out that my upper cooler lines where backwards, and full of air.

The other thing , i never ported my lower intake after vortec conversion, i wonder if that is hurting me also ???

Comments are more than welcome.

Re: Finnaly went to the track!!!

i ran 12.8 on 12 psi with a pt61 turbo and non ported vortec heads. don't think that is holding you back. also i was running untuned than.

Leaning it up a bit may have made it a bit faster. Do you know what AFR's you were running during the runs? Those intake temps definitely hurt.

AFRs where 11.6- 12.2 all runs. It just did not pull hard. Maybe a bit rich ?

The heads are ported (pocket, exhast to manifolds). My consern is the lower intake being much smaller than the heads, could be a big bottle neck ?

its not a bottle neck since its a small port connected to a larger port. It's big into small that you have to worry about causing turbulance.

Seems like some pretty unaggressive timing, and why are you fattening it up?

i was under the impression that you could run the IC lines either way and they will still work the same? Is that true?

no you want it to fill from the bottom up, and exit from the top port....otherwise you'll start introducing air pockets into the system

Re: Finnaly went to the track!!!

My lines are run like this...
- bottom line on upper IC is the outlet and goes to the upper (inlet) of the lower CAC.
- bottom fitting on the lower CAC is the outlet, to the inlet of the pump
- outlet of the pump pumps to the upper (inlet) of the upper IC.

I've found that running like this provides the most 'head' to the pump, allowing the pump to work easier, pump more fluid - the pump never goes dry.

Heat rises/cold sinks, so as the fluid is cooled as it goes through the lower CAC the hottest coolant tends to stay high in the cooler, and the cooler fluid exits the bottom of the IC into the pump, to be sent back to the upper IC.

EDIT.... this is NOT as specified in the service manual.. I'm running the GM Cobalt pump where the center (end) is the inlet, making this method easier to do.

Re: Finnaly went to the track!!!

I think the biggest restriction is the heads first, next is the intercooler inlet, right after where the hose hooks up.

My friend Dave cut off the stock inlet then welded a 2.5" inlet IIRC, he had them both flow tested ,stock then w/his larger inlet, there was a huge difference in CFM flow.

Re: Finnaly went to the track!!!

My :2cents: is it's the tune and definitely the intake temps. On my truck intakes temps make a HUGE difference. I have the stock A2W. Also I run cold water IN the bottom and OUT the top of the upper IAC. Lower is in the top and out the botom. No issues with air as long as I have it all out to begin with. My hoses go over and down the drivers side. I haven't drained that system in 2 years because I can just set it aside. works well.

I also cut off stock inlet, then welded 2.5 inlet sometime ago.

Well i thought fattening it up is safer that leaning out at first, wanted to see which way it goes. After looking at the data, you are write, i need to lean it.

I am going to try 12.5-12.7 afr. Also what would you suggest on timing with 93 octaine ?

Re: Finnaly went to the track!!!

It did FEEL faster when i had my V2 ultimate chip with same setup. This thing SHOULD run low 12s high 11!

Please help me go faster.

P.S should have keeped my Vette!

Re: Finnaly went to the track!!!

Why not just keep plugging away at your tune, of just have Nolan or one of the other guys on here tune it? I say you should be fairly low 11's with that build.

You are right, i should have it tuned, maybe on dyno ?
