First 12 second pass with the Ty

BLACK92TY

It's never enough
Just got the truck back from none other than Mr. Dig himself after being down for about 2 summers. And after a dissapointing weekend in Sabin last week (snapping the stock propshaft) we were back at it again this time @ Rock Falls Wisconsin. It was a good day, bout 70 degrees but with a fairly high elevation. Only got three passes in but the truck ran strong.

First pass was

Bout a 5lb launch on nittos. Junky 100/91 blend all three passes.

60... .....1.82
330.. ....5.29
1/8........8.24
MPH.....83.6
1000.....10.78
1/4.......12.95
MPH....103.32

2nd

Better launch, bout 7lb, slower E.T. ???

60........1.77
330......5.25
1/8.......8.23
MPH....82.85
1000.....10.79
1/4.......12.98
MPH....102.38

Final pass

Ticket was funky, think I rolled too far in staging and it threw something off.

60......1.80
330.....5.30
1/8......(for some reason is off, reads 5.30 just like the 330)
MPH...82.64
1000....(for some reason is off, reads 5.30 just like the 330)
1/4.....13.07
MPH...101.95

Thanks again to Dig.
All this was done with stock turbo, intercooler, manifolds, converter, and no methanol.
I know theres more in the truck, we're heading out again next weekend for the last race of the season and we'll see what it can do on 110 with chilly air.

Nitto Drag Radials, How much air were you running and also Did you try to spin these tire before staging.

I never thought if i spool up and spin tires trough water i would get better 60' times, i was wrong. 20-22lbs of air, spool-up and spin after going through water box dropped me from 1.75 to 1.61 60' times.

You will be surprsised to say the least.

Frank from AutoAddictions challenged me and i did "violently" and sure enough with the same air pressure i drop from 1.7 to 1.6 's i was convinced now.

I just wish i had some of my good burn out video's to show you. Since i am the video guy, no one else knows how to capture my video and all of it.

If you drive around it you are losing out on some 60' times and that will result into a few tenths improvements down the track.

What kind of turbo/converter are you running??

Re: First 12 second pass with the Ty

Not trying to be a smart-ass. I actually snapped the stock prop last weekend trying to clean off the tires in the burnout box at the track. Not like it's making crazy-horse or anything like that. The stock prop just took it's toll I'm sure.

Your brakes don't hold the best.... it's tough to get a good launch with it.

Before you run, take and slam on the brakes a few times while backing up.... tightens the rear brakes. You might also try tightening the adjusters in the rear to where you just get a slight drag on the drums.

Your truck likes a ~ 6 # split from the front tires to the rears. I'd try 20 rear, 26 front.
If you can get a burn (or at least a couple turns) on 'em, it'll work better. Front suspension limiters would also help.

Your IC likes to heat up a lot... ice bag between runs.

Slick Falls ain't known for its 60-ft times. Cedar Falls might be nicer to you.

Glad to hear you broke into the 12s. It really should run 12.70s on the race settings, 104-105 MPH. Try position #2 or #3 on the chip.

With a boosted launch, the stock propshaft is going to break, its just a matter of when.

Shhh. Don't tell my stocker that!

Funny thing, it wasn't a stocker... but it did have a double-cardan joint in the back that gave out.

The key to it, like Ralph said, is 'violent'... if you get 'em wet, you really gotta spin 'em hard to get all the stuff shed off so it doesn't drip down while you stage. It's a lot easier on tracks that have a bit of room between the box and staging.

My Hoosier Q/Ts needed a fair amount of heat to work properly.

On all the passes I drove around the waterbox. Running about 24 all the way around.

Yeah the brakes definitely need to be upgraded. Also I didn't use ice bags inbetween runs. We'll adjust the air pressure in the tires as well this weekend.

Rock Falls is definitely not known for it's traction, we'll see what it can do at the good old "House of Hook" LOL. Thanks again Dig. : )

Re: First 12 second pass with the Ty

So does a hard ass launch to spin the tires hurt the tranny and drivetrain more or less than a hard launch that hooks?

More. The spinning isn't a problem in itself, it's the spin/grab/spin that creates a jackhammer effect on drivetrain parts.

Re: First 12 second pass with the Ty

Well we just got back from Cedar Falls Raceway in Iowa. There was 200+ cars there for the last race of the season. A lot of bad-ass rides there. Couldn't have asked for better turbo weather, but there was a nasty headwind a good majority of the morning (not ideal for these little bricks) All aside it was a good day, didn't get a 12.7x out of it but came darn close...

Best pass of the day was on 110 running 21lbs

60'........1.732
330.......5.179
1/8........8.099
MPH.....84.59
1000.....10.638
1/4.......12.811
MPH....103.20

Might have some vids if I can figure out how to host them. Thanks again to Dig for waking this thing up.
