First time to the track EVER , TIPS?!---

What are your pointers?! I heard to hit it on the 3rd yellow as fast as I can?! With our braking systems and "boost launching" do I just push the brakes down AS HARD AS I CAN and boost up to about 2-3psi and then .... let off the brake and hit the gas to the floor? Do I have to worry about BREAKING the brakes if I push down too hard? I was worried about that the other night and my truck was creeping forward while I tried to launch my first time. I just didnt want to hurt the brake system. Should I use DRIVE and not OVERDRIVE? Also, I dont burn out or anything right? Lets say my intercooler isnt working (still need to hotwire it), that shouldnt make my engine get damaged running it that way right (besides it being a little slower)? Thanks ---

Ok, first thing I did when launching at the track is get to the lights, then put the truck in neutral and rev it like twice...let the RPMs come down and then put into drive, hold the brake down and modulate the gas pedal rapidly and it will build boost slowly to about 5-6psi. Dont let it get too high or you will creep and spin alot. On the 3rd yellow let off the brake and go like hell!! As for hotwiring the IC pump...DO IT!!!! Otherwise you may as well just not have an intercooling system cuz the water will get really warm while you are getting ready to launch. I hope this helps and have fun.

parking brake works awesome as well

and about breaking the brakes, no you wont. you should be worried more about the trans/transfercase/propshaft!

edit- dont forget to drive around the waterbox. they dont give you much room at gateway...

When are you heading to the track? Gateway?

If you have the stock chip, do not forget to gas it before you stage to get past the 1st boost limit. I'm embarrassed to say, I forgot this on my 1st trip to the track.

Thanks guys, awesome!!! Keep it in DRIVE not OD right? Modulating the gas rapidly means push it down quick right?

I will be at Gateway for Midnight Madness the 2nd.....not this Friday but next :) ---

Parking brake AND foot brake or will the parking brake be strong enough on its own?! ---

with your foot on the brake press down as hard as you can rev it in neutral and you feel the brake pedal sink down more. the stock chip has a boost flag that will not allow you to go full boost once you start it. To get around this you need to do a dry hop.

if you use the parking break make sure you pull the brake release and not the hood release i know some have done just that

IMO Forget screwing around with the parking brake. The last thing I want to be doing is reaching down around my knees while my truck is planting me in the seat. I would try practicing this once or twice before you goto the track. Some people find the front or rear brakes don't hold, so that needs to be addressed before you goto the track.

For Drag Racing a SyTy, the Todd A. Maneuver

1. Shift Truck into Neutral while stagged.
2. Press down on brake hard, and give the motor a couple of revs to 3000-4000 rpm, to build vacuum in the brake booster.
2a If you have the stock chip, make sure you go WOT while reving the motor, this will eliminate the first boost limiter.
3. As the motor revs fall, you should feel the brake go down a couple of inches.
4. While still depressing brake, shift truck into Drive.
5. While in drive, press the gas pedal to building boost, once the boost get past once 1 psi it will build quickly.
6 When at ~5 PSI of boost let off the brake and floor it. You can try different boost levels to see how your truck hooks.

Warning: This is addictive but this is VERY hard on the stock tranny, and other driveline parts....

The only problem with all that is by the you get to 2a the light is already green and you get a record shattering 10 sec., reaction time!

I agree their is potential for poor reaction time. Most SyTy suffer from this. I try to stage quicker than the other guy. Sometime it works, sometimes it doesn't. I put in a 2 step to hopefully elimate the rec in neutral procedure, (I have other issue now though)

The last time I was at the track the starting line track worker told me he would wait until I stage to start the lights.

One last thing, tell the guy you are racing to give you a few seconds to stage. Most have no problem with this. This will give you ample time to play. It is what I do, since the guy racing me doesn't want to race a blazer, but a Typhoon.
