Higher ETs with new 20g

I went to the track for the first time since installing the 20g with 12cm2 exhaust housing. My previous best was a 13.14 @99.5 using 100 octane, T2 timing and 19psi. My 60 foot was a 1.84.

Last night I ran a 14.0@98.8 using 93 octane, T1 timing and 15psi. My 60 foot was a 2.34.

Should I be disappointed? I realize I am not able to compare apples to apples however after spending $800 on the turbo and tearing up my knuckles I feel disappointed.

I knew my 60 foot would be worse as the truck lags more but I was hoping to see more top end. Maybe it's there with only being a .7 mph slower and making less power. I am not sure.

What are my next steps? I was thinking a torque converter with 2800 stall. Maybe I have a problem. I have datamaster but can not get connected due to software driver issues. I am working on it.

Re: Lower ETs with new 20g

your using less timing, less octane, and less boost. your losing 1/2 second on the 60' alone. move that over the entire 1/4 and I can see why you ran what you did. get a converter and try again with everything being the same.

TUNING TUNING TUNING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

That turbo should let you run easy in 12's if you tune properly.

If I can ask, tell me how to get it tuned properly? Is there someone I can buy a chip then have adjustments made. Am I forced to purchase all equipment to burn my own chip working with a tuner?

My buddy has a GN and TTA and he can get a mail order chip. He goes out and does some runs, records them, then sends it to the tuner who then burns him another chip.

I can do that for you as can 3-4 others here on the board. being in chitown maybe you can talk greenie into doing it but I kinda doubt it.

Custom tune is the only way to go IMO. Sure you can buy a chip, and your truck will run BUT was it tuned to your mods exactly, your altitude, weather, miles on engine, etc. NOPE.

Every syty is different.

If your not comfortable tuning yourself, then have someone such as John do it.

Some of the guys will do tunes via email, etc such as you say. If you have a solid mechanical truck this can work well.

I do tuning, but insist I be with truck. Just a personal thing.

Do what is best for your situation. If I can get a stock turbo sy to 12.15 your 20g ty should be in 12's also.

Well Jay is now in Indy not chitown he hasnt changed his location. Also, I called brian green when I bought his truck to ask him some questions and to see if he wanted to help me out a little with it and it seemed I got the cold shoulder but who knows he could have been in a bad mood

AGREED!!! x10

My stock motor Ty ran 12.3's with a 20g and a converter. The converter helped alot but the 20g without the converter still ran good......................but needs tuning to make it right!!

We have some tunes that should work well.......................as I had this combo in my truck for a year.

I wish all you guys that do crazy tunes didnt live so far away. It would be easier for people like me that dont my asshole from a hole in the ground when it comes to engines. It seems no one around my area can really help much. I hate to go the route of bolting on more parts to make it faster, (and I know it sometime can make it slower) maybe I should save some cash and take a road trip to one of you guys.

p.s. sorry about the threadjack.

Nolan tunes trucks all over the country from Canada. I'm sure others do this as well. You get datamaster, which you should have already anyway, send them logs and they send you a new tune. I've helped friends do this and it's incredibly easy.

true I did talk to nolan, and although I dont believe in half assing something b/c of money I just dont have enough to buy all of the extra stuff I need in order for him/others to do it. Maybe someday.

like a fast computer and all that craziness? I am in the same boat. I am going to try my hand at tuning with the tunerpro 2 as soon as I can, and take it slow, but I really want to get the FAST cpu, 85lbers and my GT67. maybe next year. I will let you know if I find anyone for tuning in the area. I think ViciousV6 knows some people in Jersey.

Re: Higher ETs with new 20g

There is hope! Thanks for all the information.

Sounds like a tune is required. Should I go ahead and get the TC done right away? Tune first?

Also my new location has been updated for Brandon.

you will need a converter no matter what but your also going to need a tune.

Re: Higher ETs with new 20g

you dont need a fast computer...I ran a P133 for a long time doing my logging....Going with Nolan's tuning is a fantastic way to go...has tuned quite a few peoples trucks on here...and is the basis for many others'
