How to get a killer 60'

Turbo6

Lots of people have asking me about my 60 ' so I thought I would make this post on what I have and do.

These are the parts I have:

1) green dot tires
2) HD Bilstein shocks
3) Caltracs
4) Suspension travel limiters through both upper control arms.
5) Digital 6 MSD using the 2step on the launch.
6) Pressure switch set at 6 psi in series with the 2step trigger wire. This makes it build boost faster.

What to do with that stuff:

1) Let the tires down to 20-22 psi on all 4
2) Load the rear springs with 1/2 turn on each side with the caltracs.
3) Turn the travel limiters where the end of the stop is 1/4 inch from bottoming.
4) Set the 2step on 2900-3200 depending on track conditions. (The 1.47 was at 3100) you will have to play with this some. I have a 3500 stall.

The fun part:

1) I cool the truck down to 145-150 deg before I go to the lanes leaving the hood open in the lanes to keep it cool.
2) Flip the tq converter lockup switch.
3) Drive around the water and backup close to the water but dont get in it while making sure I am lined up straight.
4) Mash the brake as hard as I can and put the throttle to the floor. When I see 15psi on the boost gauge let off the brake and let the tires spin to clean em off.
5) Start pulling up to get pre staged making sure of being straight and in the groove. If it is not I back up and correct it.
6) Creep up very slowy to the staged beam and stop just as it turns on to stage as shallow as possible.
7) Mash the brake hard and put the throttle to the floorand hit the 2step button.
8 Let off the brake and step button on or maybe a little after the last amber.
9) If it starts spinning I am ready to lift some and then go back down with it. I have not had a spinning problem lately tho.
10) Keep it in the groove and as straight as possible going down the track.

I hope this helps someone. This is the longest post I have ever made I think :fadein:

I learned from your longest post ever so props to you and congrats on that 1.4 60 foot. It is very impressive. What did the doctor say when he had to stitch your head back on to your neck?

The tranny breaker
15 psi when you let go of the brake? Man.. I broke my fittingplates to my wilwoods just stalling up to 10-11 psi.. Can you really go as high as 15 without burning the TC or breaking your brakes?

Although the plates were not that well put together. Now I did it myself and I guess it will hold now.

LoL!

Great info tho Turbo6. This is one of the things I plan to tackle this summer now that we know it's possible.

It does not hurt the tq converter. It takes less than 2sec to hit 15 psi and the brake is relased then. The launch boost is 10-11 psi on the 2step. The 2step makes it easier on the trans and converter.

this about the same as i was doing.

however we are going to change it.

1 prestage
2 build boost unitl rev limiter kicks in
3 bump it in to turn on bottom bulb while allready at boost on rev limiter
4 hold on and let go on last amber.

going to do this to compensate for the spool time.

wish me luck on doing this one correctly!

Something bad is going to happen. Do you think that you will be able to leave off the brake enough while it is building boost to roll in that little bit?
Good luck, you gotta try :D

i have a bear 13' track system for my GT, and factory 16x8 2001+ S-10 ZQ8 wheels fit

Mike,

I have the 13" Baer kit, and I had to go w custom 17" wheels because the stock SyTy wheels won't fit. However I got the backspacing a little off and I'm having clearance problems with my 255-50 tires. Do U have any pics of these 16" tires that will fit these rotors ? I don't think there are hardly any 16 " ers that will fit the unusual SyTy backspacing.

I do the staging thingy similar to Ed so FWIW:
Drive around water box
Wait for opponent to finish burnout
When he is rolling up from burnout box to pre stage I pre stage
Go to neutral and rev engine, when RPMs are coming down mash the brakes HARD
Shift back into drive
Wait for apponent to fully stage
Start DM logging
Build boost to ~8psi
Ease off the brakes and creep into stage beam then mash down HARD again on brakes
Build ~14psi
Wait for the last amber and let it rip.

I get incredibly crappy 60' times but the local crowd usually goes nuts when I light up all four rock hard firestones, come within this >< much of picking up the front tire(s), and still beat the guy Im racing.

actually we never did stage that way, i.e trying to bump bottom builb on while at boost. now i just wait till whichever lane turns on last bottom final stage bulb, hold button mash brake and gas all the way down. And i am on the revlimiter before the last amber ever lights up, and at whatever boost i had set on controller..

seems like everytiime i see a timelsip for those in the top 10 they have reaction tiimes that appear thaey sat ont he line building boost well after the green light.

dont know why they have to do this as my exhaust housing is 1.34 onthe gt40 which is BIG. but yet we have no problem building boost... so somehtoing must be radically different in either the builds or the staging methods here.

Stab it and steer it
All good info for this newbe to the track running a complete stocker. I think I take all the info, divide by 2 :D and see what happens.

However I did get two decent 60’ times Wed: 1.88 and 1.87 Which is way better then what I’ve been doing. BTW The 1.88 came after a .077 RT. Not my best but close.

I’m still learnin’ though. Seems I can get some good numbers on a run but not all good numbers. But I’m workin’ on it.
