Where do i begin. This day was fun filled and ended part way through a ZQ8 box install. Mind you, i had about 4 hours to do this before work. Anyway, swapped in a Derale trans pan and filter just fine and took all of 15 minutes. Onto the ZQ8 box and jeep shaft.
The castle nut came off fine. Cotter pin was rusted and basically wasnt holding a damn thing...
Return line popped off and fitting came off in a blast of impact gun, rust and PB Blaster.
Rusted pressure line.......
Removed tire.
Dropped the center link.
Wheel well off.
Steering shaft bolts off after fighting the rusted end.
Pressure line.........
CAC off.
Pressure line.........
Steering shaft front off, no thanks to the rust.
Steering shaft rear........
FCK IT, CUT PRESSURE LINE.
Brake line moved out of way and Box came out.
Breaker barred the pressure line fitting off with about 80% of my strength.
Steering shaft rear.........
Steering shaft rear.........
Dremel'd cuts into the steering shaft rear and PB blasted the poo out of it.
Slowly got that bitch off. Rust is great!
Jeep Shaft test fit: "WHY THE F ARE YOU PUTTING A JEEP PART ON ME!!" says my Ty, no fit.
Found a ridge on inside of jeep shaft and deburred it.
Still no fit but can tell its close.
Removed layer of rust on steering column and lubed her up.
JEEP SHAFT ON!!! only the rear though.... Still need to drill the safety hole.
Thats it so far.... Tomorrow is figure out how the hell i'm getting the old pressure line off the pump and new line on. Then go to a mechanic and have them impact my pitman arm nut off and onto the new box as well as swap my overdrive alternator pulley on... and finally, the slow process of putting it all together.
I LOVE RUST
