Left or Right lane?

Just watching some NHRA coverage tonight and they do a lot of talking on differences between lanes, heat, traction, ect ect.

I got to thinking that 9 out of 10 times, I always choose the left lane. I just feel more comfortable there, not really sure why, but I do. Being that most of us are AWD and other than getting out of the hole, traction isnt a huge issue for us, but when your in the staging lanes, do you have a lane of choice?

I like the right lane because:

I can watch pillar mounted boost gauge and tree at the same time.
If youre tall like me the rear view mirror gets in the way of the tree in the left lane.
Locals all sit on the right side of the track here for some reason :-? .
In the left lane I feel weird driving WOT on the "wrong" side of the road.
Right lane is closer to the pits at my local tracks which means I dont have to push the truck as far when it scatters.

I never really thought about it. I usually prefer the lane that doesn't have oil on it, I sware half the time I goto NED their is a slippery side...

I try to get right lane when I can for the same reasons Dave listed (I'm 6'2" and have pillar gauges), but unfortunately in Savannah, that's not always the ideal lane. Most often the left lane (tower/crowd side) has a smaller water box, better lighting, and with the return lane being on the right side, I have more room to make the pit turn.

You already know this, but.....What NHRA racers say on tv is often lane preference in terms of traction and track flaws. A lot of tracks will have small ripples in the track and when trying to hook a 4 second car, these ripples play a HUGE part. But, for the most part, with them it's a mental comfort choice.

I usually take the left lane. but i can make exceptions so i can buddy up next to special friends.

Ya know mike I never thought i would see the day that i could say that!

I always take the right unless I get forced into the left. Same reason everyone has mentioned - my boost gauge in both trucks in on the left and especially with a helmet on it's too difficult to watch both the tree and the gauges from the left lane.

i try both, then pick the one i don't spin all 4 on. Usually left.

I like racing on the left...

Turbo exits from fender there and is REAL loud with the K&N and that is the corner that picks up under boost launches.

VERY intimidating! (Especially streetracing)

Maybe not, Just Try both. The starting line might be better but if after the 60' isn't what good did the starting line do you? I don't think with your combo (all wheel drive) you will see much, if any difference.
