I wonder if this is the same one Jeff Scott tried to save in Louisville? Maybe not considering this is on the west coast. :dunno:

Read the last post on that site (1:47 PM)
"That's my buddy's Syclone. It had 226k on the clock when he let it go. The rod was basically pushing through the block, it leaked oil and PS fluid from various places like a sieve. He put it on craigs for $500 and couldn't even find a buyer. Oh, and he traded it for something with four seats, since his wife was expecting. Don't judge"

$500!!! WHAT! The bumper is worth that much. moron:tdown::tdown::tdown:

Read the page. He advertised it on craigslist for $500, apparently, with no budges.
Motor was toast already.

The yard owner seems willing to part it out before crush, so people with needs...

Re: Syclone Cash for Clunkers

@Turbodig yeah....I'm calling shenanigans on that. I find it really hard to believe that for $500 it wouldn't sell. Hell, even if he labeled it wrong as a Sonoma, I know people that would have snatched up a truck for that cheap, no matter what the condition.
This to me screams "I'm just another person who doesn't really care about the things I own. It's America, everything's disposable!"
Not trying to sound self-righteous or get on my soap box, I just deal with this type of person every single day.

It's too bad there isn't some way for a Canadian member to buy this. I mean if it left the U.S. it's no longer any concern to the U.S. government. But I'm sure it would be impossible to accomplish this due to the government mandating the crushing.

If nobody here saw the ad, I wouldn't doubt it. If he ran it for a week, and nobody sees...

Furthermore, he would likely not have gotten the CFC price for it, with all that was wrong with it. Look at the pricing here, among people who really know what they are.

So, you're left with the choice of $4500 towards a new car with CFC, or, best case, $2500 on the open market. (If you're really lucky) Plus, dealing with all the selling hassles.

I don't know too many people who are gonna take a $2000 beating just to keep a 200k+ mile, beat up, blown-motor truck out of the junkyard.

The lot caught it, and will get the unique parts off it. What's left, outside of a VIN number, is ordinary S-truck parts.

Why is this any worse than someone parting a marginal one out?

but you must admit most of the guys on here struggle with partin or even selling their beloved trucks. i agree he obviously went for the money but seemingly rightfully so he had a family so he did wat every man would have done in the that situation. Its just frustrating to those that cant relate and or mad that we didnt prevent the trucks demise.

Re: Syclone Cash for Clunkers

Just got off the phone with them and the guy I spoke to said he doesn't know why they still have it sitting there, but have not started to part it out and may not be able to part it out due to being cash for clunkers vehicle. I also asked if I could buy as complete and I was told no due cash for clunkers. Sounds like we won't be able to save this one, but may be able to get parts. The guy I spoke with said to call back every couple days to see if they are able to part out.

Re: Syclone Cash for Clunkers

The only good parts though would be possible interior pieces. As upset as this whole situation makes me, I'm sure the mechanicals are beat to all hell. I can't imagine a 225K xfer case not needing to be gutted. Oh well, more just sad that this beauty is suffering the same fate as some fart-ball 1988 Carolla.

Re: Syclone Cash for Clunkers

Considering that fewer than 3,000 Syclones were built, this is a sad hit to an endangered species. (Remember, too, that many examples of the GMC Typhoon, the Syclone's sister truck, were clunkered.) The Adler Bros. car doesn't appear on the master list of Cash For Clunkers trade-ins, but it's possible that it was one of the forty-eight versions of the 1991 GMC Sonoma 4WD that the program took in.

So is that correct? This is one of 48 that went for cfc program?

Cash for clunkers can be parted out, I've pulled parts from several CFC Blazers at a Pick n Pull.

I understand what you're saying when you can get $4500 towards new car, however he could have taking off rare parts to sell. I guess we are lucky that the junk guy realized what it was, and will sell them.
I just hate to see them junked like rusted out POSes

Must have been a poorly written ad to not spark interest somehow!
