track gains from e-fan conversion?

Re: track gains from e-fan conversion?

Ask Jeremy.....he converted to Efan on his quest for 11's on the stock turbo. Initial testing was done by just removing the clutch fan at the track. That was enough to convince him to switch. He'll explain more soon enough I'd imagine.

Re: track gains from e-fan conversion?

well there are more reasons to do the efan conversion thsn just picking up a tenth or two at the track. The engine temp will be alt more stable, if you have a front mounted AUX CCHE it will cool the IC better ,less noise, better throttle response and MPG.

the efan conversion is removing the stock fan shroud and clutch fan setup and installing an electric cooling fan, alot of guys like the volvo recall elctric fans, they are a 16" single fan that fits the stock rad really good, flows 3000+ CFM and is a really nice upgade that really isnt all that expensive. I sell the fan and mounting kits for 150 shipped, which is cheaper than any good aftermarket fan that will flow that kind of air, and this fan is OEM quality so you know its going to last.

Re: track gains from e-fan conversion?

It cleans up the engine bay (more room), the engine looses some of the fan noise, and their is a slight hp gain (less than .1), i have mine switch so I can cool the radiator with the engine off. Negatives, $ and I have retune my ecm to deal with the electrical draw (stalled out or almost stalls when it kick on idle) For a mostly stock SyTy, I would spend my money elsewhere.

anyone compared a volvo fan to a tauras fan. which flows better/is smaller? ill be using one of those on my project soon.

I think they are the same motor/fan in different shrouds. I have no proof, but thats my guess.

I've had Taurus fans on my '00 S10, as well as several friends S10's.....They are work comparably to the Volvo. Both pull plenty of air, and have decent reliability. Both are similar current draws as well. They also both fit the S10 radiator perfectly. I don't think you'll go wrong with either.

I am still planning on using the Ramchargers fans.

With electric you don't have that drag and weight on your water pump wearing it out. I just hate the sound of the engine trying to rev and swing that heavy fan. And then there are the stories of the fan coming off at speed. Where is my pic of the blades sticking thru the hood?

Re: track gains from e-fan conversion?

I had a fan come off the front of my 2.2 S10 a few years back. Dealership picked up almost $750 in parts and labor under warranty at 35,582 miles......Talk about me getting lucky on that one.

I proceeded to replace the clutch fan with an electric fan shortly thereafter.

heres the volvo and the mounting kit. I used the DC controler on mine. Looks so much cleaner then the clutch fan.

Amen.....ask Waller about a particular 8k mile Syclone that had a fan come through the hood almost.

Not worth the risk IMO.
