Trans problem

Just wanted to see if anybody else have experience this with there Sy/Ty?

Going 65-70mph in overdrive (not drive), floor it, trans shifts down to third gear i guess, truck starts to miss or bog at about 100-110mph (high rpm), wont shift in fourth unless you let off throttle enough to get out of kick down, shifts in fourth and i have full power again.

Known problem with my trans at this moment is worn out band (slips between first and second @ WOT) Normal to 3/4 throttle very hard shift in to second, chirp tires when shifting in second.

Is the miss/bog related to the truck hitting the "rev limiter"? A stock chip equipped truck will have the rpm fuel cut set around 4800, and if you're running 110 in 3rd, you're most likely hitting the fuel cut. Power resumes in 4th due to rpm drop.

IIRC, a stock trans will not shift into 3rd @ WOT. (But, it's been a WHILE since I've had a trans w/o the WOT upshift sleeve.)

What you're seeing may very well be normal. Other, more intelligent SyTy peeps will chime in I'm sure :D .

It's not fuel cut, i'm running Ultimate and 15psi boost. I guess you meen 4th. Can anybody conferm that our trans wont shift in 4th at WOT and kick down engauge, if that's the case i found the problem. :D

Like Hood said, it has to do with the 3-4 WOT upshift sleeve. I was thinking it was in the stock tranny, but often missing in cheap rebuilds or something, but I could be wrong. I think syty.huryde.com mentions it in the tranny stuff.

Your original post made it sound like you were going 110 mph or so in 3rd gear, that why I said you may be hitting the fuel cut. The Ultimate still has the fuel cut, just set a little higher. If that's not the case, then just ignore me. :D

Like Bill said....unless the tranny has been modified with an upshift sleeve, it won't shift into 4th @ WOT.

Hopefully that's all your problem is.

The tranny have not been mod yet, i do have a Hartman kit and a billet 9/11 to install. Just got to find the time to do it.

So i guess that's my problem, no 4th shift @ WOT, need to call Brian and get me a upshift sleeve, thanks a bunch guys. :D

almost 200% positive that the true stock tranny's came with the sleeve. Mine doesn't upshift but I know I have had a cheap rebuild. I believe Patricks is a true stock tranny and his will.

I just remember that my trans was replaced in 98 with a GM remanufactor unit, the previous owner worked for GM and always put GM parts on my truck, i'm pretty sure he had a Sy tranny installed due to the hard 1-2 shifts and not a regular 700R4/4L60

the stock trannies are supposed to upshift into 4th @ WOT, but due to upshift sleeve desgin and wear and tear, many do not. replaceing the upshift sleeve with a newer design from sooax will fix the issue but not the whole issue of a worn out leaking internally, tranny.

yep, what waller said, the stocker might not do it, and a rebuild probably will not as well. Had one put in mine when i blew it.
