Re: best way to keep motor cool

Before i say anthing i would like to know how can i tell if my clutch is bad. I was told to roll up a newspaper and easy try to stop the fan if it stops thats an indication the clutch is bad if it doesnt and it basically weats up the newspaper then its working. I know this doesnt sound to correct but what other way can i test the fan clutch.

Vinnie, That was weird Superbee coming back like that. If your radiator is clean and not plugged up do this to check your fan clutch.

1. The fan clutch is noisely anytime the truck is first started in the morning for the 1st couple of minutes to re-distribute the silicone fluid back to the disengaged operating condition.

2. The fan is noisely when the clutch is engaged for maximum cooling.

To test

1. If the fan cannot be rotated by hand or there is a rough grating feel as the fan is rotated by handthen the fan clutch should be replace.

2. At the tip of the fan blade, If there is 1/4" or more lateral movement, the clutch should be replace.

3. If the engine is overheating. With the engine hot and not running, If the fan and clutch assembly free-wheels with no drag ( turns more then 5 times when turned by hand) replace the clutch.

Re: best way to keep motor cool

Get high temp heat insulation (the type that has fiberglass and is lined with foil.

Insulate your accumulator, insulate the bower housing on the engine side.

Go to napa, order a Variable Orifice Valve for your year truck. That will help ac performance when your not on the road driving.

Run a heater shutoff valve on your heater core line going to the heater. (note, check how the system is routed, sometimes they need that path open for cooling)

I'll kiss your ass if that doesnt make your ac cooler.

Also, e-fans are great because you can crank them on when your sitting with your engine off to try and rid of heat soak.

this setup had my ac blowing 35* out the vents last year at nats

superbee witnessed it first hand
