Re: muffler suggestions

Last time I checked you need a cat or cats on there along with mufflers for Official Pa inspection, along with Egr, Pcv, charcoal canister, Functional check engine light, etc.

Re: muffler suggestions

i'll be emissions exempt since i won't drive it more than 5,000mi / yr. So due to that i'm pretty sure cats aren't necessary.

I know here in Allegheny county you still need a cat even if your under the 5,000 mile/yr to pass the visual inspection.

Re: muffler suggestions

I put one round magnaflow on mine, the largest it would come(3.5" pipe) and the truck was very loud, I liked the sound put I knew I could get pulled over.
I talked to a rep at magnaflow to what he would rec and he said the round mufflers don't quiet an exhaust like the oval ones do because of the lack of size.
Nolan had rec running 2 magnaflows back to back so I bought the biggest oval muffler they sold and installed both, truck sounds really good but is actually still decently loud even with a tailpipe.

Good luck with the search, magnaflows sound nice but are loud :D

That is only if you have current Pa inspection and did not do the 5k a year since it was last inspected on a Pa inspection, last time I had seen your truck it was a Ca car. It also has to be current inspection because as soon as your inspection is up and you did not get it inspected i think you forfeit the 5k mile exemption. I am sure you know some one to help you out. Any muffler you choose will be better than none.

you just need the right inspection mechanic

actually i believe you only need a muffler for the visual, you dont need a cat for the visual. and if its under 5k miles, then its emissions exempt and no test. could be mistaken, but thats what my inspection guy told me.

i decided to go w/ the 4" magnaflows...and got two 4" cats also:

any chance you can post the part number for those muffs. i'm trying to put together a system for mine.

Re: muffler suggestions

Sound clip for these?

i can fart through them for you...other than that - nope. They won't get installed for a couple weeks. I'll take some before and after vid clips if i'm feeling motivated enough.

I'm hoping it tames the sound down a little, can't see how it couldn't. Also hoping that it doesn't choke the thing too much.

Right now it just has dual 2.5" exhausts. I was going to bump up to 3", but going to try out these 2.5" cats/mufflers first. I think 2.5" or each side should be enough for it to breath considering how small the turbos are...but we shall see.

Re: muffler suggestions

I'm still looking for mufflers for mine too.
I haven't found a good stock replacement in Stainless.

Actually, if I could find regular passenger car mufflers in 2.5 in stainless, that'd be perfect. I want it to be really quiet.

Barring that, something along the lines of the stock Super Turbos, only stainless.

Stainless works has some non-straight-through models, but they're fairly expensive when you're talking about buying 2.
