I'm looking for some advice about what is the way to go for a scan tool. I am in need of one for a 93 corvette LT1 that I used in an engine swap. But I would like to make sure of getting something that would work on other cars I have-my 91 Sy,a 95 Northstar engine swap and possibly a 95 camaro 3.4 sfi that I used in a swap. I've never used a scan tool before so I'm hoping for something relatively simple to use. Are there any recommendations? Also,should I be after something other than a scan tool that might do much more? Thanks.

I doubt your going to find a scan tool that work all those. GM changed a lot of their vehicle to industry standardized ODBII ALDL architecture in 94 (require in all cars by 1996). Datamaster wil work on the LT1 and Syclone, thought they use different ALDL format that your will have to buy.

Thanks Dave, Actually three of those engines are obd1-surprisingly cadillac did not go to obd2 until the 96 model(at least on the northstar). So three,the Sy,the 93 LT1,and the 95 Northstar are all obd1. Are you saying that the datamaster would work on those 3 as long as they are indeed obd1? Thanks again.

anything 95 and newer passenger car and lower than 2500 series truck is obd 2

Nothing for N* or the 3.4, but DM will run all the rest, with the same cable. You have to buy the additional platforms, though.
OBDI support is spotty at best. EASE will supposedly support everything you have, but you're gonna pay lots for it.
Bottom-line, multi-vehicle support (including OBDI) is generally very expensive.
