Guys, I am A complete noob, when it comes to mechanics. My expertise is in computer repair period I'm looking for some advice. I have my truck down at a race shop, but I fear they don't understand what a different animal this is. My goals are as much low in torque as possible. Will this mean that I will sacrifice in the mid to high end band? I don't care about top speed. Also, I want the truck to be as absolute reliable as possible, I also understand that I will sacrifice some reliability, with the upgrades, but what are some of the things I can do to prolong the life of the engine and the transmission. What would be your set up to get into the low 12s without sacrificing much reliability? My main focus right now is the engine. For as much torque and reduced turbo lag as possible, what turbo would you put on there? What downpipe would use? What about headers and cat back? What would you use for an intercooler? What injectors size would you use? White ECU or tune would you use? Remember, I don't want full-blown race, because that just sacrifices the life of the internals, and because I do not do the work by myself, this would get very expensive. I would go up to mid to high 12s before I will sacrifice reliability. I've been looking at some of the parts on Sportsmachines.net, would you kindly list the items you would buy there, or add another source. Please be as specific as possible. Thank you in advance. In return, if you want it, the only thing I can offer you would be computer advice, and then Master Tech and I own my own computer repair shop for 27 years, so if you needed help, just PM me. Thank you in advance guys. 2467

Is your truck stock? I would focus on making sure the truck is generally in good shape to begin with. IMO, you go beefing up the engine, everything down the line on a 30yo truck is going to suffer and you're going to have problems.

In addition, I would begin going through the builds section of the forum. Lots of good info about both builds gone well and problems people have run into.

You'll probably see quite a few comments of keep it stock if you don't know what your doing, otherwise it's "pay to play" in a lot of respects for these trucks.

High low end torque (high low end cylinder pressures) is usually a killer on most stock bottom end builds. If your trying to build a torque monster some pistons and rods should be in your budget. I dont have to much experience with these engines in particular but have built my fair share of turbo ls engines and turbo four cylinder engines, and stock rods and sometimes pistons just dont like the low rpm high cylinder pressure setups. if you want more power and keep the bottom end stock you are going to have to move the torque peak higher into the power band, not lower.

Thank you guys for your info, yes, I have owned sy 2467 for 18 years. The truck is mechanically sound and is strong, but like most of you I probably don't need to read that it has major ignition issues. I've just lived with it, it's been an ongoing battle, but other than that, I have the tranny already upgraded. Please don't ask me the model except they called it a stage two, so that could be anything. I have a torque converter, and then really the rest are bone stock. I'm brand new on the site, can you link me to some of the builds that you talked about and perhaps recommend some. Thank you in advance you guys are cool.

Guys, thank you for your invaluable information. So, I know this is an old post but I’m still deciding what to do. Time has passed, and I have done a lot of thinking about what I actually want and it’s.this:
I believe this is one of the fastest vehicles from the factory 0-30mph. But it seems, that after 30 mph it’s not very strong.Using the 10k budget, what is my best bet to increase the power and torque from the 30mph to say 70mph. I want all my torque in the low rpm band. This is a daily driver, so I want all my power between the zero and 60.

I know this is just very general, but can you give me some ideas, like which turbo would be the best for low and torque?

i think you're best off building up the bottom end (piston/rods,etc) then adding the turbo to give it the ooomph you're looking for.
