12.246 on 17.5# boost

@109.8 I just thought that going that quick on just 17# was a pretty good. No this was not the Lucas Oil Series. Just Wed night drags. They haven't changed the slip.

Here's the link to the DM file. The RPM blip at the end is probably me coming out of drive and going to neutral instead of just OD like I usually do at the end.

91 octane, spraying meth. Stock tires (although close to the wear bars). 23 psi in the rears about 24 in the fronts. Notice -0- spark retard. Just shy of 20* advance.

Believe it or not I could tell I was on a good run and probably gonna breakout but kept my foot in it anyway.

Re: 12.246 on 17.5# boost

Thanks guys. I just thought I'd post it because it was a nice clean run with a decedent ET. I don't imagine it's anywhere near the quickest ET on the least amount of boost but it's the best I've ever done on that amount.

The other car is an early Camaro. Very good as you can see. Does a big wheelie on the launch.

And yup, still enjoy racing. You could say it's my night out with the guys...:rotf:

That's impressive, I have been looking for a post that has your combination but haven't seen one. Do you mind telling me what you did to run that? I have a basically stock Typhoon that I'm working on and would be really happy to run 12.80's in it.

Re: 12.246 on 17.5# boost

The build is a "custom" cam from Comp (you can have the number, others have used this cam here). Stock lifters. Probably wouldn't smog though. Crane Gold self aligning 1.5/1 rockers. Smith Bros pushrods if that means anything. .030 over, CP pistons. (They make a piston for blown motors.) These pistons are 9.0-1 instead of 8.5-1 which -may- have something to do with this performance on this amount of boost.

Vortec heads slightly ported. Stock ex manifolds. 3" DP, no cat. 60# injs. Eric's chip. Stock intake modded for Vortecs.

Ah the turbo... I don't what to call the thing. The turbine wheel has one less blade. The turbine housing is the larger of the 3 Mitsu housings. The compressor side is apparently refereed to a 60 to 1. I refer to the whole thing a a hybrid. Boost control is manual. Nothing fancy here. "Semi" cold air intake. It sits where the bat was.

Built trans. 2800 stall. If you have DataMaster and can get the log posted above you'll see that I'm leaving at about 2400 rpm and 7# boost depending on where you look at the graph. 5050 1-2 and 5500 2-3 shift points. +/-

I'm also spraying meth. An older AlkyControl kit. You'll notice my IAT's are in the 90's This is not a piece of cake. Don't know about the newer kits but the controls on mine are extremely sensitive. Very easy to either not spray enough and get high temps or spray to much and have the motor not like it. I don't know if there is a "sweet spot" for IATs but I like to see less than 100*. I launch with an MSD 2-step. Brakes are stock except for the larger cyl mod in the back.

Probably left something out, just ask.

Good job Don nice ET run on a low boost setting are you using an 9 or 11 inch converter ??

Re: 12.246 on 17.5# boost

Thanks!

11". The stall is "footbrake". Not completely accurate but the only one I've used. Need to do a "flash" stall one of these days.

Tuning this thing is an endless work in progress. One thing is constant. Street performance has little relation to strip performance.
