1990 S15 into Sy/TY conversion?

Hey guys, cool site, I have a question prob. answered a million times, (but then again im a N00b so here goes. I have a 1990 GMC S-15 4.3L V-6. I want(if i can) to convert the engine to accomidate the SY/TY turbo. Is this possible? The cost? I know i have to do some compression, engine management etc. things, but will it work? Or can i drop a SY/TY engine in my truck? Any help would be great! BTW: I live in Colorado Springs, Colorado

Truckless. For now.
it's possible, but expensive. a complete motor, as i think has been posted, is running $3k and up. Then you need the wiring harness, ecm, etc.

the search feature, while tricky to figure out does work. searching and reading through a few posts will help you see how costly the conversion will be. if you want a turbo truck, like i suggested on cosr.com, look up Mach Performance. They just came out with a turbo setup that's pretty much bolt on, and allows you to run with the higher compression, just lower boost.

then there's always the simplest solution of just buying a sy or a ty. last i checked, there were two Ty's and one Sy for sale in CO. but like i said, a search will answer most all of your questions. :) good luck with whatever you decide. you could always just do an LT-1 swap instead. Ron Redd owns a Sonoma GT and just did a swap. He's in C-Springs too.

Fairly easy to swap in a 90-92 350 TPI. Lots of room in older body style for retaining air and etc. Use existing wiring harness with 7730 ECM for 90-92 Camaro and just relocate pins to correct position. Buy aftermarket motor mtds and use stock trans. Costs range from eng + $200 and up depending on how elaborite you want.

96 was a lot tighter than 88 Blazers I have.

You can add the turbo manifold and intake to a lower compression motor or even drop in a complete SyTy motor. Probably for a little as $3000-4000. You going to find out pretty quickly that these motor make a lot of torque (approx 440ft-lb stock) and will ruin your stock tranny pretty quickly and traction is going to be a problem at low speeds. Adding the AWD, fixing the tranny, add larger tires, your going to have a $3000-4000 truck that will have close to $6000+ in mods alone and it will still be worth $3000-4000. IMO The Ty has a nicer interior, looks better, has much better resale and will save you a lot of labor. Your better off selling your truck and buying a Typhoon for a couple extra grand.

IMO The only cost effective way to do your swap is to buy a wrecked truck and do the swap...but the problem is finding a wrecked truck.
