20g help

From what I see in the pics it shows on the intake side 49179-54430 or 49179-54340
Exhaust side 79-14160
Would a stock Syclone support this OR will I need to change the torque converter?

Re: 20g help

Look on the exhaust housing for the size because that's what your worried about if you have a stock torque converter

Re: 20g help

So this is what your turbo is? TDO6H20G-TDO5H10CM2

If so, your stock torque converter will work great!

I have a 10 CM turbine housing machined for the TD06H turbine wheel & 20 G compressor wheel & it spooled just as fast as a stock turbo, but once it grabbed some boost, the boost came in faster, a tighter wastegate actuator helps it spool fast also.

Did you see any top end benefits?

Not a whole lot. Just a tad more mid range & top end. If you install a 57 MM compressor wheel would show a greater gain. The 20G wheel is just not that much bigger than stock.

Going w/much more boost ( IMO 18 & more PSI) the 10 CM housing creates some exhaust backpressure..

Currently I use a 12 CM housing & it works pretty good w/my stock torque converter, & the 14 CM is too large & causes turbo lag w/a stock torque converter.:2cents:

So if you want just a little bit more power w/the 20G turbo & 10CM housing it will do that, but if I were you, I would @ least have a 57 MM compressor wheel installed.:2cents:

Hope this helps.

Re: 20g help

Just for those interested....

The 17C wheel is a 48.3mm/68mm inducer/exducer.
The 20G wheel is a 52.6mm/68mm inducer/exducer.

Compare this to the 56T/57mm which is a 57mm/76mm inducer/exducer and you see the benefit of the upgraded compressor wheels.

Re: 20g help

Would it be possible to add this to my stock turbo? I'm thinking this would be the hot ticket.

That should work....
For a stock turbo? Yeah, not so much.

For anyone seeing this that is thinking of upgrading a stock turbo to a 20G compressor wheel/housing, please note that it will not work with those two parts alone. The 20G wheel is a "superback" wheel as opposed to the stock "flatback" wheel, so a complimentary thrust collar will be needed (just get a whole superback kit).

We discussed a lot of this here - http://www.syty.net/forums/showthread.php?t=92037

Re: 20g help

You could also have that compressor wheel "superback" machined so it's flat like I did for when I installed a 60-1 wheel that had a superback style wheel. I did this also to lighten the compressor wheel, to me,having a superback /convex back side compressor wheel,,, it just added weight that I wanted to remove.:2cents:

Re: 20g help

Wait....what? You removed a feature that was designed and implemented to lower centrifugal stress and allow higher rotational speeds? What was the cost of cutting the wheel and rebalancing? Would it not just have been cheaper to buy the appropriate parts to retain the superback design?

Re: 20g help

I machined the wheel myself.
Rebalancing was free because Deadbolt messed up/damaged my compressor cover.

I spent $170.00 total including shipping for my rebuild w/a larger 60-1 wheel installed.

The 60-1 wheel was too thick front to back as compared to the stock 20G wheel, I had to take off material on the inlet side of the wheel & the back side of the 60-1 wheel.

I also had to bore the hole on the compressor wheel because the Mitsubishi turbine wheel shaft is larger than the small shaft Garrett turbine shafts.

I guess I will continue to look around for one. I am a loner out here as there is noone around here that knows anything about our trucks, let alone turbos.
