I transplanted a 1993 Ty 4.3 into an old hot rod. I've been having issues putting more power to it. I first wanted to do a mid mount turbo system, this didnt work out because I couldn't find the proper oil return system. The I bought 4-71 blower and manifold to run. This was cool for a while but it only bolts to the older non vortec manifold.
I want to use the Vortec heads so I'm going back to the twin turbo system. Te question I have is; can I flip the stock manifolds like they do on the V8s? If I could flip the manifolds I could snug the two turbos up to the front of te motor and get it all to fit. I'm even debating on leaving the sides of the motor compartment off and let the turbos hang out the sides a bit to help with cooling.

Sorry, but I am a little confused here. You say you used a 1993 Typhoon 4.3 for this swap. You converted it, or wanted/tried to convert it to Supercharged (4-71), and decided to go back to turbo, but want to do twin turbo? SO, I am guessing you do not have the factory turbo parts anymore? I ask this because the passenger side exhaust manifold is set-up for exactly what you are trying to do with the single stock turbo. It is my guess trying to go twin turbo you'll need custom exhaust header/manifolds, and intake.

What kind of classic car are you building?

Did you use the entire Syclone/Typhoon AWD drivetrain as well?

If you are not using any of the SY/TY specific stuff, and are that set on wanting the Vortec heads, I would just start with a newer Vortec 4.3.

I pulled the stock 4.3 out of a wrecked '93 Ty for my 1932 Dodge. I intended to do a twin STS type setup, however I was having issues with the return pump for the oil. Instead of risking damage we scrapped the idea and went to a 4-71 setup. This gave the car tons of torque but I always planned on the turbo for it.
Now the motor is pushed back a bit more so I was thinking of taking a stock set of manifolds and flipping them so the exit goes forward and slightly up and build the rest from there. I dont have the stock TY exhaust. The main problem, and the reason for my questions is because I'm trying to gather parts to do this conversion from 7000mi away from it. I'm in Afghanistan and I go home on leave soon and want to at least get things fabed up before I come back, so the next trip home I can enjoy it. This is very hard to find info on this type of mod. The next hard part will be the intercooler.

Cool Deal. It's a little clearer now. There is a mid power gain set of heads you can use for this. Search up the L-35 cylinder heads. They don't flow as much as the Vortecs, but flow a bit more than the SY/TY LB4 heads. You may be able to use a set of stock regular 4.3 exhaust manifolds set-up how you are describing, but I am not 100% sure on that. It may be easier to have a set of tubular turbo headers made. The guys at RPM Motorsports have headers but I am not sure about twin turbo. I am pretty sure they also make intakes as well. Setting up that intercooler should be a bit of fun too. I am betting some of the generic small block chevy twin turbo set-ups would work.

Cool car to do something completely different with. I am sticking traditional on my hot rod project 1940 Ford Coupe. Going Flathead V8 on mine.

Wanna sell the 4-71? my grandpas 1500 could use more power, but i dont wanna go v-8.

For exhaust manifolds some of the astro vans had tubular ones, that would be easier to modify to change the outlets for turbos. They would have come on the later 80's or early 90's vans

This is what I meant, was from side to side to get the exit forward and upward. If this is possible then I'm in good shape.
I'll start looking for a set that wont look terrible since the engine will show.
