That is a good buy as long as you do NOT go over $500. If a bidding war starts and the thing gets up to $600, let it go. You still have to pay shipping. It is the PERFECT candidate however. If you win, tell him to pull out the 65 pound converter and throw it away to save on shipping.
The item will not weigh 350 pounds if you get rid of the converter. The trans weighs 170. The pallet shouldn't weigh over 40 pounds. It must be securely wrapped if they do not drain it (which they probably won't) so fluid doesn't get everywhere. You will be charged by the shipper if the thing contaminates other packages.

The only thing I'd put in it is a billet clutch hub and a transgo hd2. Put new clutches and seals in it while it's apart. Everything else on that model was beefed up for the big block torque of a diesel.

I've got a couple cores here already unless you just don't want me to build it(some guys want a local place to build it). That way your just paying shipping one way. That shipping just shounds rediculous. Now I know it cost more to send something from East to the West than it does from West to East but that's just rediculous. Of course that's with an inflated weight as well. Like I said, have him ditch the converter and make sure it's drained. That shouldn't weigh over 200 pounds in shipping form.

Transgo HD2 is $110.

The hub is $95.

Plus whatever shipping costs are encountered.

I know it's only got 30K on it but I would strongly urge you to put in a clutch and seal kit while you've got it apart. Your talking about the removal of retaining rings with a screwdriver.

Still do the HD2. The only thing you'll have work on is the filter at the base of the manual shift valve. It will still work. You just have to use a belt sander and shorten the plastic filter some so the aluminum plug will seat far enough to get the roll pin back in.

There are a LOT of mods to do to the pump. It's all laid out in the HD2 kit. Big thing is KEEP TRACK of the valvebody parts when it comes apart for cleaning. There are 4 different variations I've seen. So take a pic or lay them out so they are NOT disturbed.

Check the separator plate. I've seen many of these where a check ball has busted through and stuck in the plate. If you see this or a plate that the ball has almost entirely worn the hole through, replace the plate using the transgo plate. It's almost twice as thick and it's zinc plated to prevent the checkballs from wearing through it.

You'll also need a short manual shaft. I have two of those in stock. If you go to the nats, the giveaway trans will be there and I'll show you what I'm talking about.
The late model 80s seem to all have the park neutral safety switch on the outside and the manual shaft is really long to accomidate it. This shaft is way too long and will hit the front prop shaft.

If you get a 4x4 model, make SURE it has a reluctor wheel for the rear TOSS sensor to get the output shaft speed. They usually do not have the reluctor on there. I stock those reluctors as well. It presses onto the rear planetary.

You'll need the wider stator support bushing I have and the no walk rear case bushing. Those really help prevent issues from arising later.

it seems as though the owner decided to not sell me the trans, what ever i'll just find a local one instead.
