Today I successfully bolted a silvarado SS transfer case to the back of a 4l80e. Everything works and fits like a dream after a custom part or two.

The good news for any of my 4l80e customers, past, current and future is I will be offering that upgrade for minimal cost.

The advantage to the SS is the factory rating of an additional 1k ft lbs or torque capability. 2500 -vs- the Stock 1500

Granted transfer cases don't break often, but as some of the fast guys approach the 9, 8, and 7 second range it is a good option to consider.

The one disadvantage I have found out though is, no more 2wd dyno or driving on them.

I think that is great Jeff...it'll allow for someone shooting for 8's or even 7's in the future to do so AWD. I would think the Hoover's are pretty much maxed out assuming they are AWD. Or is traction more of an issue then and slicks are just way better?

Keep up the good work!

Do you know the weight difference between the stock transfer case and the SS one?

I have not put them on scale but carrying them around I can tell you it is minimal. In fact sometimes my back says the SS is lighter.

Need to check.

So why cant we go 2wd with this setup??

The SS guys have reported even during chassis dyno sessions it will burn up the coupler.

FYI,

I've seen sever of these cases fail on stock 6.0 liter trucks. The viscous dies and starts to make a nasty cluck whenever there is any sort of differential action between the front and rear. The cases never exploded or anything just a bad clunk and a really bad "4x4 bind, crowhop" when turning any sort of a corner.

Theses were trucks that hadn't been abused and had just towed small trailers, under 2000 lbs.

Also on these cases the front shaft must be installed or you won't have any drive, the viscous just won't allow it.

All of them did, up until the new models (which I'm not sure if they are at dealers yet). The new ones will offer AWD as an option, but will be 2wd at the base level.

I know your talking about a SS, but my Ty does this. I just took my front PS out and all of those things stopped. Does this mean something could be wrong with my VC? Thanks

I know you're talking about SS's. But my Ty does all the above. I just took my PS out trying to find my 70MPH vibration and all these things stopped. Is something wrong with my VC?
Thanks

This would be the NVG 149 case, right?

Is there any difference between the spacing of the input shaft and the front output shaft compared to the 4472?
