Ok now i might be a little stupid on this part so if theres anyone that can help me out it would be great......4L80E

1. What is so good about this tranny?
2. What did it come in?
3. Whats all involved in swaping it into a TY?

The reason i ask is im curently rebuilding the motor and ive got a set of Vortec heads with 2.02/1.60 vavles. and im going to be going with a Precision trubo. Would it be better getting my 700r4 rebuilt or going with a 4L80E

Have you done a search on 4l80e and read all the write ups on it? all that info is listed here if you just search for it.
But with what your doing your 700 should be ok. If you want to run in the 10's and do it often/alot then the 4l80e option would be for you if you don't mind spending all the money to do it with.

2 700r builds will equal one 4l80e conversion or so....so you blow the the 700r once, you should have just done the other...the 80e is stronger and maintains OD vs the 350 or 400. If you care about OD, then that should be your route. Like Dean said, its more of a depending on power and how you'll be driving it thing.

Answers:
1.) Its a 4 speed version of the TH400. Heavy duty with overdrive.
2.) 3/4 and 1 ton trucks. Also some other HD trucks (like Cab & Chassis and such). Best place to find one these days is late model pickups with the 6.0L or 8.1L. I'd suggest 2001 and newer, because they have the most current factory updates.
3.) Alot. The factory output shaft has 32 splines. There is a kit available that includes a 27spline output shaft (to match the transfer case) but you've got to completely disassemble the trans to put it in. Plus both driveshafts have to be modified andthe transmission crossmember must be modified or replaced. And the torque convertors don't interchange between the 700R4 & 80E (meaning you've got to buy one of those too.) Plust they're pretty pricey.

But if you've got a 10 sec street driven truck that keeps spitting out transmissions, its the ticket.
