Oh and yeah, TYPHOON goes uphill. Apparently they don't have any type of laser level at Speedhut. And eventually the RPM/Boost gauge is going to be replaced with the boost gauge 86'd out of there and only have RPM's on that gauge.

Here's my Typhoon plate + IC cover. Had a dude @ work do it for me because I kept getting pissed off that I couldn't get it looking good enough for my liking. Needs a little touch up though on the plate, as there's a nick above the 1st "O". And haven't decided yet if I like the IC cover white with the grey insert or if it's going to look better vice-versa. Will have to decide once I go home tonight and see what it looks like sitting on the rest of the upper motor.

Pistons shipped today. .30 bore so picked up the ones that Ryan had available on his "Garage Sale" thread.

Also spoke with the painter aboot the grille today...It should be finished up either tomorrow or Monday. Keeping my fingers crossed it turns out like I picture it will.

Oh...and got my VAC ball today from whoever I bought it from on ebay. Sealed in the bag. WOO HOO. Now I shall have cruise control and climate controls again.

The install part I'm not too bad about. Its probably worth the $160+tax to me just to get them to drop the block in it and me not to have to f- with the bell housing, motor mounts and trans.

It's the more $2500 of machine work and block rebuild that I am wondering if it's on the high end or not. JJ (GarnetTy1473) just shot me over a fax from when he had his done so I am comparing the two. Granted, two different shops and two different builds are going to give two different quotes, but it appears that his build was similar to what mine is and his pre-tax total was $1623.17 (w/o install). Doing some more research as well. It's the last day of the month and trying to close out end of month while doing research for this as well. :roll:

It's been mentioned before but,,, Assemble the motor with heads and lower intake on the engine stand, Leave off the ex manifolds. HOWEVER using my solution or others make sure the bolt holes lineup then just set those aside.

Remove the wheel wells. Ya it takes and extra few minutes but the increase in accessibility is well worth it. All kinds of things are easier with them removed.

Install motor. There are a lot of different things that need to be attached on the rear. Bell housing bolts, Gnd cables, gnd wires, supports, you name it. You'll wonder where it all came from. :lol: A guy doing this for a fee is not going to take the time necessary to do it correctly. Also with ex manifolds off, starter, motor mounts, (to name a couple), go right in. Only when you're 110% positive you haven't forgotten something do you do the exhaust.

Regarding bell housing bolts: There is a little heat shield on the pas side firewall. Remove that, makes accessing the bolts on that side easier. Also do not install motor mounts untill bellhousing is bolted up, Being able to lower the motor just that little bit helps also. Bolts tight? Everything attached on the back of the motor? OK Raise it up and install the mounts.

After exhaust comes radiator, lower IC, and the excitement of getting close.

Got the pistons yesterday and took them to the machine shop. They already have the Eagle rods and bearings and all that goodness, so now it starts to go back together. They are saying it should all be ready to roll by next Wednesday.

What's with the spedo reading 120? Shuda left, or made, the "GMC" red. Otherwise I like it.

It pegged to 120 while doing the install. The motor still isn't in or anything, so once that goes it and she gets driven, it should work it's way out.

I was contemplating red GMC, but decided to try and go with a constant white/grey for the truck.

Okay. Motor is done sitting at the machine shop waiting to be picked up. :woot:

The plan is on Tuesday when I am off to go, pick it up, take it to the townhouse, connect the trans and motor mounts and then push her into the garage. At minimum I want to get all that done quickly during the day while everyone is at work. As I said before, I live in a townhouse community and *think* that dropping a motor in a vehicle is probably something the HOA would frown upon.

STILL LOOKING TO SEE IF SOMEONE WANTS TO SELL / TRADE A VAC LINE KIT IN EITHER BLACK OR BLUE!!!

I have a red one WITH EGR (Adams silicone kit) if interested!

Ok, finally picked the motor up from the machine shop today.
Was planning on getting it and setting it yesterday, but my work-buddy was unavailable and plus I had a crazy attack of allergies, so worked out to the better.

Old rods / pistons - maybe these can be turned into trophies for some upcoming meets?

I think the machine shop however did lose my spark-plug wire clips that were on the heads. Need to check and make sure I didn't take those off before I sent it to the shop (which yeah, I shoulda done), but about 99.9999% positive they were left on when they went to the shop. :rant:

For reference:
Here's what I wound up paying the machine shop.
$1270.65
$395.48 of that was for the set of Eagle rods.
$875.17 was for the bearings, rings, rods, valve job, assemble, baking, etc.
I'll throw up some better pics here in a bit of the motor once I get home.
