1992 GMC Typhoon Black on Black only 36,000 miles UK car from new
1992 GMC Typhoon
Delivered new to the UK in March 1992
Only 36,000 miles!!! Must be the lowest miles Typhoon in Europe
Was stored for 16 years. I purchased it 2 years ago and began a very long and expensive journey
The paint was badly faded on all the plastics and the rest of the paint was poor.
I had a windows out repaint done. They also removed all the doors and front wings and bonnet to do the paint. The whole truck is in gloss black now. It would be easy enough to spray the body kit with Matte lacquer if you want it to be original. I prefer gloss all around. It is an original Black on Black Typhoon
We replaced ALL the Seals and ALL the lights and badges. The Headlights are LED units made by TrukLite and are over £500 for the pair. It looks better than the day it rolled out of Detroit 25 years ago.
The inside was in fantastic condition and just needed a clean. Because the car had sat for 16 years we went thru all the brakes and replaced every line, hose and rebuilt the callipers and of course new discs and pads on the front and new pads and drums for the rear.
On the engine we replaced all the consumable items, spark plugs, rotor and cap, wires, ignition module, etc...... We also had the alternator rebuilt. Of course we changed the Oil and filter as well. The fuel pump failed shortly after getting her back on the road so have just installed a new pump plus sender unit. The Engine is TOTALLY standard and has not been messed around with. The Turbo has been rebuilt at 32,000 miles. We took the turbo off just to check it and make sure there was no play in it. We also replaced the metal lines and water pump for the charge cooler, as this is a know problem on the Typhoon.
We did a transmission service and put new oil and a filter in it. The gear box changes nice and hard like they are supposed to. We changed both front and rear diff oil.
On the suspension we replaced all four shocks and lowered it with a Belltech lowering kit. We also replaced all the front steering arms and installed a steering damper as the steering on these trucks is very light.
I replaced the 16 wheels with Corvette 17” ZR1 forged wheels with Continental sport contact 5’s I purchased two sets of fronts as I don’t like the way the big rear tyres make a Typhoon drive. They originally had the same size front and back so I kept it the same. The wheels have been refurb to a very high standard. The original rims are also included.
The private registration is included in the sale. I have a legal set of number plates but I have always driven her around on the American style plates.
As you can see from above, this Typhoon has had a huge amount of time and money lavished on her. Be sad to see her go but I now have the itch for an old mustang and need the space and funds.
To view or questions please ring or text me. I live about 15 mins from Heathrow, just off jct 5 of the M4
