Engine didn't start because the distributor rotated with the engine! I can't figure out how to tighten it, can't see a thing down there. I guess I'll just have to remove intake manifold and then distributor, clean and fix it, and put everything back together. I wish I never touched it

Was that a kit? If so how much/ where from? My front end squeaks like crazy - I'm tempted to replace the ball joints but not sure where to start.

There is one bolt underneath the distributor that tightens it down. YOu can use a special distributor wrench to get to it or a long extension with a swivel. It clamps down a neck which in turn clamps down on the distributor.

Looks like it was a good job you found all that rust.

No, I ordered all parts one by one at Rockauto.com. $53 for each ball joint, total $170 for tie rod ends and adjusting sleeves, another $90 for pitman and idler arms, and some $80 for control arm bushings. Delivery est. to Russia is $150 (there were some more parts, so that's an estimate). I'd say the parts are quite cheap, assuming they really last. Delivery is pricey, though. Btw, I used a cargo forwarder to ship goods to Russia.

Did you get poly bushings or the rubber versions? My front end squeaks unbelievably badly with the poly - I may replace them

Yes, I did the whole poly impregnanted w/ graphite bushing changeout 10 years ago. The graphite was to not get the squeaks. Only had them in a year & constantly CRC'd them. Went back to stock rubber.

I bought regular rubber ones. I heard that poly bushings are way too stiff for everyday drive, and yeah, they squeak.

Damn. Looks like my distributor's busted, I can't get the engine running. It revs couple times at best, and then cuts out. Fuel's okay, wires and spark plugs are okay, coil's okay. So that should be the distributor.

Yeah, I thought so. I tried to rotate distributor back and forth, no luck. So I bought stroboscopic light to setup timing properly, and now it's just fine at some 5-10 degrees before TDC. Didn't work either.

I've checked the coil using Chilton's manual, looks okay. I bought a new one anyway, just in case.

Spark is there, but it looks kinda weak. But I don't know for sure, maybe it's just me. Compression should be fine as I've done virtually nothing with the engine - just plugs, wires, rotor and cap, then the distibutor rotated like 60 degrees when I cranked the engine. And here I am I think that there\s something broken inside the distrib., maybe it misses some sparks on some cylinders, or maybe spark is too weak. I'll change the whole thing, and I'm sure it will work. There's just too much rust now under the cap.

Can you wire wheel the dist?

What is the clearance from the dis to the cap - too wide now perhaps?

Can you get a new dis over there?

I don't want to clean it - I'll just install a new one and see if it helps. I'm sure it will. We'll see in a couple of weeks

Woohoo, my baby's up and running again!

Damn, I missed him. Last month I've been very busy at my job, so I didn't have any time to fix things. But today I finally installed my new distributor and coil, and engine started right on!
Special distributor wrench is godlike, I can't imagine how you remove distrib without it. Thanks to everyone who provided me with parts!

Actually I shouldn't have take Ty out of the garage - its freezing here, like -30C right now (I wonder will it start tomorrow ), but I just didn't help it. Its kinda fun out there on the roads with RWD

I also bought new heater core, some light bulbs for rear dome light, USB data cable, and some PIAA headlight bulbs. I hope I'll be able to install any of this till New year.
Ah, almost forgot new battery (damn 300 bucks!). They said its made in US

Don't tempt me

Next thing I really need is to finally fix AWD, and buy some shocks. I've been planning to do this for a couple of months now, but without any luck, yet. I had to change my job recently (so I lost some funds), had some family difficulties, blah blah blah.

I'm a service engineer, fixing and servicing microscopes and some medical equipment. As for English - dunno, maybe I was just lucky with teachers at school, and then video games, movies, books, etc. English is quite easy. I like it very much, I think its way more fascinating than Russian. Russian has different words for everything, and English is much more context-based. Its easier to learn - you don't have to remember loads of stuff, and you can easily read even if you don't know like half the words.

Russian is much like Chinese, if you ask me

I wonder why Ty consumes so much fuel. I'd say it's like 30 l/100 km now, which is way more that it should be, even if we consider heavy traffic in here.
O2 sensor, maybe? Should I clean the injectors?

New ignition stuff didn't solve the problem of very rough idle when engine is very hot. Everything's fine during long runs, but when it comes to traffic jams idle revs start to twitch one time in 2-3 seconds. I can't say it bothers me very much, but I wonder what's the reason is.

Brake anli-lock system works great! Very smooth and gentle operation, easy to control.:tup: Now I need to fix rear brake sensor error which come's up eventually.

Hahaha, cancel that ^^^ ABS stuff I'm so lame - that wasn't ABS, just slightly bent brake discs Whan I apply moderate pedal pressure, they act just like ABS - lock-go-lock-go and so on. Damn, I knew it was too good to be true. :lol:

ABS may be working though, I just have to slam brakes with some speed and check it.

How is your EGR working?
