Air Intake???

I have a stock truck and i was wondering what kind of air intake is best for my motor? I've been reading alot of bad things about the brittle cross intake that's been taking out turbine wheels and i would like to avoid this issue and change my stock setup before this happens. I can't find anything on the net and have searched for hours threw the threads for one that's for sale. Any help? Thanks.

Re: Air Intake???

Usually custom intakes require relocation of the battery. ---

yep you can either locate it to the bed, or search an atr kit that relocates the battery under the front quarter panel. Your other solution for an intake without relocating the battery is the kenne bell kit, which is out of production but if you search you may find one. Its not too common of a problem of piping breaking and if you are worried about yours because it is already breaking , somone on the forum is usually selling good condition ones. Or if its fine just dont overtighten your hose clamps and put some plasticizer on it. Alot of people put cone filters on the end of the tube where the stock airbox is because it will make a decent intake and will make the turbo compressor surge alot louder, if you want a little more performance. Hope this helps.

I will try and post a pic of what I did. It was super easy, just replaced my stock battery with a smaller one like the Odyssey PC680 and used the stock orange elbow and a K&N airfilter. The guys on this forum are a wealth of info and can really make your life easier when trying to figure out your syty. Just search and read!!!

Almost identical to this setup

Re: Air Intake???

There are filters that will fit on your stock turbo without any adapters of any kind. It all depends on what setup you are looking for....just remove the crossover tube or create a CAI.

Re: Air Intake???

I just did mine a few weeks ago. The battery is a Braille no-weight. The filter is a K&N from RPM.

Re: Air Intake???

Thanks for the input everyone, looks like i will be buying a battery relocating kit first then the rest looks simple. On another note, after looking at these pics, i've read on the Kenne Bell website: Warning: DO NOT place any exposed filter under the hood - even behind a removed headllight. It gets you some cooler air at 100 mph, but just mixes with the hot engine compartment air and fan hot air.

I wouldn't worry about it too much, the turbo heats up the air anyways before it hits the IC. To get a true cold air on these trucks requires more tubing and plumbing in a small space. The other issue is that with all that, the filter usually ends up so low that you end up with a vacuum cleaner for things on the street, including water.

Re: Air Intake???

I bought that truck, if you want the elbow I'll sell it to ya. Send me a PM.

I removed the braille battery and spent months searching for stock intake parts.....

Here's my rpm kit, it's ok no matter which one you get unless u build or fashion up a box it'll not be a true cold air kit.

I do now! I have got to start paying attention to the dates on these things. I just assume that they are new threads if I haven't seen them in the two and a half years, or so, I have been on here. My bad.

You're safe Cam. I posted a new question on this old thread a couple of days ago and your answer was helpful to me (and I'm sure to some others as well). I appreciate the fast response.
