Alarm

The viper alarm that the previous owner of Sy 1680 installed is acting up on me. The other day after working on the Sy I put the battery back in and the alarm starts going off and the truck tried to start itself. wtf? It was cranking, but it never started. The remote won't turn the alarm off so i quickly unhooked the battery to stop the sound. I searched on the internet and found out how to put the alarm into 'valet' mode via the kill switch that was installed under the dash. So I got my dad to hook the battery back up and I put the alarm into valet mode and the sound finally quit (but the engine still tried to start itself a few times). I then took the alarm out of valet mode and the handheld remote will still not work. The light flashes on the remote, but it will not arm the system or anything. Now I have a couple of questions: Is there a way to not make the alarm go off when you hook the battery up? Why does the truck try to start itself when I hook the battery back up? Obviously it has a remote start feature, but I don't know how to disable it. I checked on a replacement remote and its $40 bones. Is there a way to see if the remote is bad or if it is something esle before I pay to get a new one? Could this be a cause of my low voltage if the alarm was acting up? Is there a fuse that I can pull to totally disengage the alarm? Thanks.

I can't really help you with your problem (self-starting), but I can relate with the remotes. I have a viper on my blazer, and I hate those remotes, stupid DEI. On my GT I have an Alpine, and I don't have remote problem with it.

but possibly I think the CPU on the alarm is fubared.

My alarm allows for reprogramming of remotes (in case you lose one or something). You can probably find the manuals online if you don't have them, and see if there's something like that.

Since it doesn't seem to work at all, what about totally removing the alarm? Or are you trying to get it so it does work (as opposed to just stopping it from going psycho on you)?

I had the same problem with my alarm, in fact both of the remotes crapped out on me and wouldnt send to the brain, so i trashed it and got a compustar, it only has one remote programed in at a time, and its probally the best alarm i have seen out there

i think I am just going to have it removed. Its causing more problems than it is helping right now. What is the best kind of alarm system to buy? How much will one set me back.? Thanks

It depends on how much you wanna do with the alarm and and your top price to pay..i got everything on mine and it was 700 installed..windows up/down remote starter, 1 1/4 mile range on the remote, muliple shock sensors, built in turbo timer, and some other things i dont need but got anyways.. http://www.compustar.org

get the phone book, and find a DEI authorized dealer. they will take care of you. i had a similar problem with my alarm. when i pressed the button for the remote start, it would start the car, but the starter wouldnt shut off. i took my truck to a DEI dealer, and they fixed it for free, since the alarm was still under warranty.
