Anyone used a Nippondenso Starter?

Has anyone tried this? Solenoid is supposed to be encased in aluminum to prevent heatsoak and the GM unit has five different positions for adjustment. Inline is like $149 and the staggard mounting is $230 or something like that. Just wanting to know if it fits before I eat a bunch of shipping charges

Yep, I have that one.
Sounds really cool when it's cranked over.

I had a problem with the clearance though.
I had to make a 1/8" spacer/shim to push the motor away from the mounting block. Other wise the starter teeth were very close to the flexplate teeth.
I think others have used it without clearance issues like mine.

Oh, and I still wrapped mine with a starter blanket just to make sure there were no problems.

They are great starters, I would have used one in mine if I didn't have a GM mini starter already laying around. My dad rebuilds starters and alternators and he says they are good, I plan on getting one some day. I would make the jump and buy it so you won't have a problem again.

Thanks guys for responding. Do you guys know if the offset mounting setup versus the aligned housings have anything to do with the clearance problem? 4CD FED, do you have the inline or the offset mounting? I'm wondering if that has anything to do with the clearance issue. Be worth a little extra money to get the offset if it is.

It could be.
My starter looks EXACTLY like the one in your pic if that is the inline model.

I didn't know they had another model. I just used the PN listed on SYTYAUTHORITY, model #5323.

Wasn't a real big deal to make the spacer. Just scratched my head awhile to figure out why it was so close to the flexplate. I wasn't sure if it was a flexplate problem or a starter problem. I finally remembered I had a stock starter sitting around, bolted it up then I knew it wasn't a flexplate problem.
