Bad map sensor?

I believe my map sensor took a shit but haven't had time to check the resistance . Code read 33 on obd which translates to low voltage/ low vacuum. Truck tries to start but shakes and seems like its misfireing then dies. Any suggestions ? I have been able to thoroughly inspect vacuum lines yet. So any food for thought would be great!

Thanks Aaron

Re: Bad map sensor?

Check the map sensor wiring for damage. I don't know the wiring off the top of my head but the three wire, ground, and signal. I would verify 5v to gnd with a multimeter. One member here was misdiagnosing a bad map sensor with a unproperly seated memcal (chip not plugged all he way in).

I also had a high idle around start up to about 1700 then it would come down after alittle bit of idling. Then today boom it would try to idle then fall on its face. Had been idling funny like for two secs then go to high idle then come down after about 1 minute.

Re: Bad map sensor?

The failure rate for 3bar MAPs (even MSD and other reputable brands) has been extraordinarily high lately. My instinct is that an overseas supplier has changed production methods or let quality slip. If you have access to a known good one (local owner, etc...), try it and see.

If it's from me, shoot me an invoice or at least a date of purchase and I'll see if my supplier will swap it for free. IIRC, they have a 1 year warranty on all sensors (some carry a lifetime).

Re: Bad map sensor?

I disconnected the sensor started it and it ran without it but not that great but it started. I'm thinking bad map? Bueller Bueller Bueller? Anyone else think the same? I'll put in my three bar I bought a while ago ! I guess this is what it takes to get stiff fixed that I've been planning on!
