Beehive Valvesprings

February 2004 issue of Car Craft

They test out some Beehive Vavlesprings on a 454.

Some interesting results.

They gain power everywhere , including an additional 20 hp at the top .

The shape of the spring allows a smaller lighter retainer.

The lighter retainer allows some more revs. Not like we rev our motors that high . But.... if you do.

My truck would valve float around 5500 rpms.

Some interesting results. The theories are sound.

yup thats the same spring I've used for about 2yrs now. just after I sent your heads out sean. they are bad ass and do allow for a much smaller and lighter retainer. and no need for a damper spring either.

yup, sure do thats why they are advertised for LS1's and vortec's SBC apps. I do have the #'s but I dont have them on hand have to dig them up. they are all over the comp cams web site. they offer them in 2 spring rates, get the stiffer ones. good for 600 lift...

What's valve float?

When you throw the valves in water and they displace enough water to stay above the surface of the water.

Its all about displacement . The way large ships float.

In real life vavle float is when the valve spring no longer has control over the valve.

 damn

them suckers are double the cost of the springs I currently have on my "to buy" list

I think they are probably a little overkill for my application anyway.
