Belltech Leaf Springs Question

I am new to the whole sy/ty community but my older brother has previously owned a Typhoon so i know a little about these vehicles. Anyways, on to the question at hand...

I am looking at buying a set of Belltech Leaf Springs at summitracing.com. My question is, has anyone installed these leaf springs on their Sy/Ty and can they tell me the exact drop it gives the trucks?

I know from what they have listed show a 3" drop but i found a website (sytyauthority.net) that says these specific leaf springs will drop the syclone 2". Can anyone verify this?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Bob

Re: Belltech Leaf Springs Question

Actually i have another question if anyone can answer it...

Where can i find the stock shackles for this truck? I called the dealer and even at dealer cost they want $110 a piece!! I have also called a few other places around my area and no one seems to have them...

My thing is i don't know if i should lower the truck too much because i am trying to keep it as stock as possible. I figure now if i was to get lowering shackles ALONG with the "drop" leaf springs i just ordered, it may lower the truck more than i would like...

Any thoughts?...

Re: Belltech Leaf Springs Question

Never heard of lowering shackles for our trucks, or any s-series.

Re: Belltech Leaf Springs Question

I am not aware of any lowering shackles. Typically most people use lowering block if they want to further lower their vehicle. Belltech springs themselves have very little arch in them, so addition lower will have to come from elsewhere.

Re: Belltech Leaf Springs Question

I would not drop it anymore than belltech leafs and maybe a 1/2 block. Anything more u will be riding close to the bump stops. Make sure you use the factory wedges as well otherwise you will have a bad pinion angle.

Btw I paid 180 for pair. They went up a bunch huh?

You can also use a coilover shock like Turbotime sells to keep it from bottoming out, the initial reason E-Rue why he start experimenting around was because his lower Ty kept hitting the bump stops.

Here is a picture of my Typhoon with Belltech leafs and 1" lowering blocks:

The rear of the truck sits too low with more than 3/4 tank of gas, and the top of my rear axle tube hits the frame when going over speed bumps. I'm not sure if the Sy will have the same issue.

Re: Belltech Leaf Springs Question

Ok, one more question.....

Does anyone know where i can find aftermarket replacement shackles and hangers for the leaf springs? I have called the dealer but you would think they were dipped in gold for the prices they want! Someone has to make replacements for these at a decent price, right?

Re: Belltech Leaf Springs Question

there will be very little aftermarket out there. the main reason is because we are spring under frame. there is no hanger flip or anything else you can do. longer will lift the truck and i have never heard of anyone shortening them, but hell it might work. but for replacing them,i would junk yard it,or place an add in the wtb.wtt section of the forum, someone should have some

Re: Belltech Leaf Springs Question

Well i found a really good deal on a Syclone at a car show recently. It has 38k original miles, 1 owner, and completely stock!!

Pretty much what i am looking to do is bring the truck back to showroom condition. Right now i am in the process of applying POR-15 to the frame and i want to replace any bad brackets or hangers before the bed goes back on. I figured the best way to sell something like this would be to have it as "stock" as possible...

Re: Belltech Leaf Springs Question

nope, that's for a hanger style leaf mount. wont work

Ha! Now I'm confused...

So are these specific shackles actually a rear "front" hanger bracket replacement? Also, the site shows the Syclone listed as a model it will fit for...
