What ever it takes!!
George is there a particular year model 4l80 that is best? or are all 4L80's just the same? Sorry if this a stupid question. I'm trying to find one here locally.

Any 4L80E will work. Better if you get a 93 or newer. If your really lucky you can score a 2000 or newer and get better planetaries but the fact is that the planetaries aren't and issue with the syty weight and there are billet components that fit both models.
On the Powerglide, let me get back with you. I have a REALLY good contact here locally that does them for rear engine dragsters. He sends 4L80 stuff to me and I send powerglide stuff to him. I'll find out for you.

Well this was my question also, and i will add some to it,
Does it matter what the trans was originaly behind? Meaning are they all still the same, like ones from 93-99 lets say and from behind a diesel or big block or small block?
I was thinking that one from a gas engine might be better, becasue the diesel shift points might be to low, but then again you can adjust those woth the fast software.

91-93 is early style. You don't want them.
94 to 96 is OK. Early lube system. Updated electronics and internal wiring harness along with case connector.
97-98 OK. New lube system.
99-00 Better. New lube system. Wide band.
2001- up Best. New lube system. Wide band. Wider planets. New overdrive arrangment.
Doesn't matter what it was behind. Shift points are a non issue with electronic transmissions. They are all the same pretty much. Shift feel is a LITTLE affected by the separator plate but not like the old TV cable type transmissions.
I always go to a Transgo plate anyway and do the HD2 kit. So what "plate" is in it doesn't matter either.
