Best aftermarket air intake

Okay, I swear I used "SEARCH" before posting this, if found somewhat related material but my question is sort of more specific, so I need some serious input.

My main air duct is shot. I mean, duct tape is practically the only this holding the ends together. it is seriously NO good...every time i drive it i fear a piece getting sucked into the turbo and destroying the thing. so i definitely want to go aftermarket, because i can't justify the cost of a new air duct (especially considering they are discontinued to begin with).

so here is the thing. I know there are a number of intake setups, most popular probably the Kenne Bell and ATR. IF AT ALL POSSIBLE, I would like to keep the battery where it is. This MIGHT be impossible, but I figure it's worth a shot.

ALSO, I need to know what to do with the PCVs. If I am not mistaken there is a tube that runs from the PCV valve into the stock air box to send some exhaust gases through. What are my options as far as either seding it to an aftermarket unit or breathing it, etc.?

I Appreciate any real help i can get, pictures of the different setups are a HUGE plus. I also need to know what is involved with some of them (i.e. where to get battery relocation kit if needed, how it works, where to run wires, etc.)

So please give me feedback, those of you who are familiar with different setups, on what you have found MOST effective in eliminating the stock setup but keeping everything else pretty under control. Thank you all,

Kenne Bell kit.

Kenne Bell kit.

Here are some pictures of the KB kit. It came on my truck so I don't know what the deal was with the PVC's and stuff on the stock system.

There is a cover that is suppose to go over the air filter(pictured below). But it's so restrictive that you should just leave it off. That's why mine sits on the garage floor. :D

Hope this helps.

EDIT: Forgot to mention that your coolent overflow tank is going to move to the other side of the truck. Kinda by where the stock air box used to be. The kit comes with a different one that mounts over there.

Most of the kits I've heard about are similar to this one. People are constantly debating whether the higher flow makes up for the hotter air it's pulling in. Merk said he saw a duct for cooling the brakes on a Vette that would make a great foglight CAI, but I haven't been able to find much info on it. I too would like to find an intake that is less restrictive and actually pulls outside air in, without having to rearrange everything in the engine compartment or cut holes...

LDZ5150: There is a PCV hose that goes to the crossover tube, just in front of the AC line near the tensioner. That's the one that's run to your elbow. There is also a vent hose running from the driver side valve cover to the stock airbox. Most people just use a push-in breather on the cover instead.

I have the ATR kit it sucks, Im making my own with a air intake under the bumper and the filter in a box where the battery goes.

Yeah I have the push-in breathers. Having to string a hoses across the engine is way too messy.

actually since the original post i have heard nothing but crap about the ATR, so i want to steer clear of that direction. i am thinking of dealing with mike lee at ar in terms of one of his cones, simple bent hoses (NO CLUE which one to get), and clamps, etc. Does this seem like a good idea?

With that, battery has to go. I was kind of thinking Optima Yellow Top in the rear, right by the sub box. Questions dealing with this:

1) Is it OK to run a full system like I have if the battery is literally less than 2 feet from the distribution block? I mean, what if a fuse (125A mind you) blows?

2) Who makes the best battery relocation kit, or in other words what is the ABSOLUTE BEST and EASIEST route to go?

3) How the hell do I run something like this, where is the ground, how does the positive terminal stay safe from damage (I am thinking it would be like 2 gauge running from wherever the battery cables go back to the trunk, so it'd need to be run on the exterior of the truck)?

Again, I am really trying to learn, and have little (if not no) knowledge of exactly how this works and how much of a PITA a conversion like this is. All I know is I hate the stock unit and want it gone. Thanks :)

I am thinking of making my own intake system as well. But my intentions are to get a fiberglass hood, or getting a reproduction hood and making it ram air.

I am going to have my friend go ahead and order me a Gel Battery, like the one that he has in his race car. The weigh alot less, and you can mount them anywhere you want, even upside down if you want. They dont leak, and they last just as long.

Does anyone know where i can get a Fiberglass hood, either cowl or not. Or where i can get a reproduction hood, and about how much they run.
