Blacked Out GMC on 92 TY

I am purchasing a 92 Ty from a guy I work with and am doing some research on it. It needs some work and the seller is holding it for me untill I get the cash to buy it and get it fixed up.
My question is the gmc emblem on the grill is blacked out lettering not orange. He seems knowligible on the Ty's and said that only the first 500 built had the gmc in black instead of orange. Does anyone know if this is true?

i dont think the first 500 thing is true becuase mine is 937 and mine is black lettering i want some red ones though make it stand out

I've seen the black letters up to about #1500
Mine #1317 has them.

yep i posted this a long time ago. I did find the document that PAS was told to use up the black letters and switch back to the red letters.

so there is no correlations between vin and Black GMC Letters.

They didn't use up the rest of the black letters up to a certain VIN, then switch to red?
