brass oil sending post

I am in needs of the brass post that threads into the rear block for the oil sender. Mine looks to have a leak where it screws into the block. I tried to teflon tape it once and it still leaks. Threads look to be worn out. I was thinking of trying some "right stuff" on the treads because it might take up the gap better?? Thanks.

I tried some silicone sealant. Looking at it today I almost dont think it was leaking from there this time. there is oil all around the stem but the teflon tape looked dry. only other place is the valve cover that also looked fine when I pulled it off. I cant see a bad silicone seal on the lower would cause a leak that bad??? I will put everything back and try the black light dye if it still leaks.

what valve covers are you using?

The stockers don't fit the vortec heads quite properly and will cause a leak near the back corners.

I am using rpm sheetmetal covers on l35's. The covers are a bit too tall and hit the brake booster. I had to dimple one side. The solid mounts raise the engine up a bit and now they hit.
Put the truck back together. I used "right stuff" on the fitting. Its in there good this time. If I get a leak I am sure its not from that anymore. I will try it again tomorow.

f-ing leak is still there. I sealed the crap out the post. I dont think its from there. again I am lost on this one. I am not loosing that much oil as The level has not dropped to much but its enough to leave a spot everywhere i park it. The only thing else that high that can leak is the oil supply to the turbo. I can see it wet right where the oil sensor goes. Not over on the passanger side. it drips right down the bell housing. Still cant see the lower leaking that much. Removed and checked the valve cover. Not from there. What else. Is there anything else back there that has oil???
This sucks because the truck is running hard. Feels great. I want to go to the track but not with these problems.

Your manifold can do this as well. Ive had it happen.

Do you think I have to remove the lower to reseal it. I dont want to have to replace my new gaskets. Can I just put some silicone on it without removing.? SOund like a stupid question. I just need a quick fix to get me through the summer and to the track a few times. This winter I plan on pulling the upper and put my polished one on anyways. That will be a good time to do the lower too. Alos plan on a msd dist too as my truck idles a little off.

BTW my truck is running great. Its a bit hard to start when it gets hot, but boy is it fast. Its running great except the leak and PS noise. Pulls hard and shifts like I have never felt it before.

go to a motorcycle shop( Yamaha one) and get a tube of Yamabond. It is gray, and looks like toothpaste.Get some brake cleaner and spray it on where the leak is, wipe off the area with a clean rag,and smear some yamabond on it. It works very good on stuff like that. It isn't a permanent fix, but it might get you buy on the track.

You are definately going to have to remove the manifold to do this. So silicone is going to keep it from leaking w/o putting a nice bead on the seal surface. Its not that hard, should only you take you 2-4 hours.

I hade my whole engine out already. I just put it back in. I guess some how I f-ed up the rear bead when I put the lower on. I hate to pull it off as the gaskets only have 20 miles on them.

You could get lucky and not have to replace them but even if you do they arent that expensive. What did you use for silicone? I use the right stuff and never have problems. Also, did you make sure both surfaces were 100% clean?

UPDATE: I always search and never find updates to threads. I thought I would finnish this one off.
Think I found leak. I removed and looked at the with of my valve covers. They are wider then stock and looks the inside flange is resting on the head and not seating on the gasket. Not 100% sure if that is a correct asumption. I did not measure but just looked. I picked up a set of new covers anyways because I wanted them baffled. I am getting oil up into the pcv system. i will know this week if the leak has stopped.

You can still get that at the dealer I just pick one up last week it was $26 they had it next day.the GM# is 12550760
