Bringing her back...

Re: Bringing her back...

I'm surprised you considered the Devils Own unit.

I guess I haven't heard the cons. Since that and a grille are the only things missing, I still have time to research this further. Obviously you don't feel like recommending DO. Comments? Thanks.

Re: Bringing her back...

hey bronze, did you buy that bronco in the backround from NY? is it eggplant colored?

by the way, great work on the resto on the sy.

I picked it up here in AK. I was driving by as the owner was pushing it into the yard to put up for sale. I had two others, so I had to hide it from my wife for a bit.

It is a medium green. I call it army green, as it was the color used for the army broncos, which this was. It will be getting the same color and with only a semigloss finish. It looks sweet. Throw on some flat black graphics and wheels and instant cool!

I have been plugging away on this lately. I was putting the sealer on the bed and tailgate and my paint gun started dripping (more like raining) out the front. Needless to say, I will be sanding that down, figuring out the gun malfunction and hopefully put paint on the bed and tailgate later this week.

Fixed the dirty, sticking needle and used some 500 grit to clean up the sealer drops. First coat of black is on!

Success. Outside of a few nubs that needed to be knocked down prior to the last paint coat, it went pretty smoothly.

Now to get the front half ready for paint. Outside of one dent on the hood, it is down to wet sanding at this point.

Here is how I vent my paint booth out of the garage. Two tunnels and a pass-through that sits in the garage door opening. Obviously this isn't California.

Looks like my truck did a week ago. The paint looks real nice, wish I could paint that good. I've been wetsanding for days....

I start wetsanding tonight. Hopefully I will have it sanded and polished by Friday so that I can continue with the front half! I had to take a few days off- apparently my respirator cartridges were either 1) wrong for the application, but worked fine previously or 2) restricted. I found myself with a migraine the next day with funky other symptoms as well. Never had that happen before.

I also ordered the cladding mounting hardware and the decals yesterday.

I pulled the bed out of the paint booth and put the rolling chassis back in there. I then wet sanded the bed and half the tailgate. With a quick hand buff, it looks really good. I am waiting for the final buff for when it is complete. Still on track for paint for the front half right after the weekend, unless I order a cowl hood...

Re: Bringing her back...

Spent yesterday correcting my pressure transducer order. I had forgotten about the vortec heads and shipped a stock plug.

Found my buffer, the guy who forgot to return it also destroyed my two pads. I think it is time to enforce the "you need it, you buy one" policy. That or a deposit.

Paint was suppose to happen this weekend, but I spent 12 hours polishing the MH. I need to find some cheap labor. It looks better than it ever has though. I also pressure washed the inside, outside, under hood and chassis on the Samurai. Found a broken main leaf that is surely the cause of my wandering.

Syclone stickers showed up in the mail!

I am looking forward to Nats. I want to see wheels and tires. I want to throw down some money on some Z06 rims in 17x9.5 and 275/40R17, but I want to see how tall the sidewalls look in person.

Re: Bringing her back...

Decided upon the Z06 17x9.5s all around. I like to rotate tires in my spare time, so this will keep me happy.

I spent the last hour looking at the painted bed/tailgate and the unpainted cab/front clip and tried to decide if I should paint it a different color. I dunno, after seeing so many of the same color at NATS, I kinda want to stand out a bit...

Cons: More prep and money
People are "used" to seeing a black Syclone and "more" readily identify it.

Pros: Different from the pack
Salvage title anyways, I am not screwing up an original, low mileage example.
I am a sucker for bright orange/red....

I guess I can ponder it for the next few weeks while I finish putting the rock up on my chimney.
