C5 brakes

After my little delay, I have a new caliper but I am hoping to use the one in the truck.

The pins were bent and I have replacements but i still need:

brake abutment bracket
rubber pin boots for the two pins either side on the abutment bracket - they go on the bracket
shims
anti rattle shim

I've asked Jax at TT if I can get this stuff but does anyone on here know if I can?

Worst case scenario, replace it all

best case, $25 worth of pins and rubber boots/shims.

The GM dealer in Wilmington didn't have anything and i don't have part nymbers so if anyone has any suggestions or comments I'd be grateful.

As always, thanks!

Re: C5 brakes

Your local dealer should have been able to pull up an exploded view and get pn's for each piece. Are there any other GM dealers in the area? If so, give them a try. Maybe try the local parts store. I think most of that comes in the box when you buy new pads. At least it did on my Blazer.

Front abutments should be 12455799.

Slide pin boots you can get at just about any parts store. That's where I got mine but don't have the part number on me.

My rattle clips came with my Delco pads, don't know if you can get em separate. Do you just need enough for the one caliper? I have some spares in the shop, I'll have to check if they are fronts or rears. Pay shipping and you can have them. Don't you need new pads though or are they OK?

I wish I had gone this way - I called Tobin but kept getting answer machine and wanted to get it fixed so i paid $250 for the caliper and $75 for the abutment bracket from another vendor.

Tobin then called after i paid and was saying $135 for the caliper and $55 for the abutment bracket.

Even if I got to the hassle of returning everything, I'm only going to save $30 or so after postage and resotck fees etc and I haven't got the time. Lesson learned - patience it a virtue.

Except I keep having to learn that lesson!

 for Tobin and kore3. Next brake purchase is coming from those guys.

Sorry you couldn't get a hold of him sooner :(
I bought a bunch of parts from him and he has a great price and great service. What I like about him is he even goes on the forums, he is on pro touring forums a lot and gives out a ton of great info.

At least you know who to get parts from now :D good luck getting the truck back together.

Re: C5 brakes

Well the shims were a PITA. zip corvette or van nest auto had em.

P731 was sold out from Autozone.

$22.50 for one side of the car???? wtf? :(

Bump.. And I apologize for the thread jack but I have a quick question. Can you mount/run the C5 brakes without backing plates? If so I am sure it will require a spacer, what size would be the correct thickness? Thanks, sorry again

Re: C5 brakes

Backing plates? Spacer?

You need to modify the spindles which are on the wheel hubs. Once you have cut them you need to add the C5 brackets - are these the plates you mean?

I got them from CBR Performance but I think Mike Renz is now doing them.

I don't run any other backing plates or spacers. One thing though, you can't use the ABS and you can't use stock wheels. Does that help?

Re: C5 brakes

yes that helps alot. i have the same kit you do I just thought you had to run backing plates. So for the rears all I need to do is grind a curve out of the side of the spindle and then attach the cbr brackets. After that mount up rotor and caliper. what lines do you use?

Re: C5 brakes

For the rears? I don't know, mine are only installed on the front. Rear is a job for another day/bank account.

I thought for the rears you needed a new diff or something? :dunno:

Re: C5 brakes

Maybe someone will chime in. As I am going to buy c5 12" rear rotors and calipers soon. I would really like to know what's involved in doing this swap.
