Canada Import

I have found a sy in NY with 16,000 miles on it. I went to the customs to see what I had to pay in taxes to get it across. They told me I am to pay taxes on the red book value, not the bill of sale. They go by the 5th, 6th & 7th letter in the vin to check price. This falls under an s-10 s-15 standard cab short box 4x4. The top dollar for that truck is $3125 CDN. this means I will only pay $470 in taxes and not $3750 on the puchace price. I can`t believe this.

Um, SH*T! if thats the case I paid way too much taxes. They wanted my bill of sale to calculate the taxes on my Sy when I brought it up from Oregan to BC here.

This may have just changed for 2004. I got the customs officer to write her name down on the paper with the info she gave me. I will be sure to check this out again before I bring the truck to the boarder. She asured me this is the way they do it. How long ago was it you brought your truck across?

Last July. Maybe its different out in Ontario.?. I dont know, but if thats the case then sweet man, you'll save yourself a pretty penny.
Whats your PST out there? Out here I paid PST at the border when I brought the truck across, and then I had to pay the GST when I insured the truck.

We pay the GST at the boarder and the PST when we liecence it, 7% for the one tax & 8% for the other. I dropped over $5000 in taxes when brought the ty in 8 years ago. My total for the ty was $37,500 which I thought was way to much being I bought a new Blazer for the wife at the same time for the same money. Now the blazer worth nothing. Should have bought 2 tys.

Ya so the taxes are about the same. I know I paid about $3000 in taxes on the Sy.

And you're right, I think I got the taxes mixed up, GST at the border, PST at insurance.

Hope everything works out for you, we need more SyTy's up here, especially the BC folks! :)
