Clifford 5.5x

Blow Me?
Anyone have any inside info on these? I was about to purchase a compustar when I saw the new Cliffords at CES. Now I'm thinking I'll wait and pick up one of these instead but after CES I can't find any info on them, not even an expected release date.

They also tend to keep the young punks out. Sure, may not stop a professional thief but my Sy wouldn't be in the shape it's in now if it had an alarm (that was armed). I lost the remote to arm my alarm, it was broken into a few days later, coincidence?

They punched the lock on the drivers side door, had no luck, then switched over to the passenger side. If there was a shock sensor that alone would have been enough to set my alarm off and wake me up, my bedroom window was less than 50 yards away. Sure, my door would be screwed up, but only one door instead of both and I'd still have a stereo and a laptop.

DEI owns them now. Here's a link to their new system, looks pretty slick. Just can't seem to find out when they'll be available.

The fact that the remote face is lcd means you can put your own functions and screens in there. I'd like to put one in for my bedlocker so I can operate my tonneau with my car alarm remote.

Re: Clifford 5.5x

Clifford got bought out by DEI, and are still produced under the Clifford name.

I had a SuperNova in the Typhoon, which I had installed when I bought the truck in 94.

When I gutted the truck in 2004, it gave me opportunity to re-think the install.

Now it does all sorts of crazy stuff and can be tuned with a laptop.

Having looked at a number of high-end alternatives, I still think Clifford is a superior product.

Well, that's good. I have a Clifford on my '92 Ty and I thought I'd be screwed if something ever went wrong with it.

I just looked at the site, and its the remote option for any Intelligard Alarm. Read: remote only

Got a link? When I hit their site all I can find is info on their matrix 3.5 and G5 lines, not the 5.5x

Re: Clifford 5.5x

I have a clifford G5 in my ty and had a compustar in my previous ride. this 5.5 seems to be a mix of the two (clifford incorporating the feature that makes compustar attractive -- the cool remote with pager). sometimes having all the features is annoying though (e.g. lights automatically coming on with the solar sensor drive me crazy sometimes). also sometimes I am afraid of accidentally touching one of the buttons on my remotes cause who knows what will happen (windows rolling down, starts the engine, lights on, stereo will start playing britney spears, etc etc.) 90+ wires everywhere are also not much fun when working on the truck. sometimes simpler is better...

fwiw the compustar on my previous ride (with the one mile+ pager and all the bells and whistles) did absolutely nothing when the car was broken into a couple years ago. there was over $20,000 worth of car stereo stuff stolen, including many TV's one which was welded onto the roof bar, a 150 lb subwoofer enclosure etc. every single stereo related piece in the car was stolen, and the car actually needed a new roof afterwards due to being *cut open* to steal a 10" alpine tv. the police investigation estimated it took at least twenty minutes after breaking the window to take everything. the car was parked on a well lighted residential street in boston. I was around the corner, less than 100 feet away. when I found the car devastated the next afternoon the pager still showed everything locked and hunky dorey as nothing had ever happened and noone had called the police. the car was in a high traffic area, about 10 cars a minute and maybe 2-5 people a minute. unbelievable. if it had paged me i would have beaten the crap out of whoever did it. i used to think those pagers were the coolest thing ever, but they can be a false sense of security...

Re: Clifford 5.5x

Umm....wow. They actually cut the roof open and your alarm didn't go off? Didn't have one of those interior sensors that can detect someone moving inside it eh? Or they found a way around it?

I don't think an alarm will stop a pro, and don't expect it too, just want enough to cause the amateurs to look the other way. I used to hang with a bad crowd in high school who liked to bust into cars stealing stereos and radar detectors, contrary to what some may say in that group of friends seeing a blinking alarm or hearing a chirp was enough to make them look for the next car. Now obviously if you have 20k in equipment the next car down the road doesn't have anything that nice in it so it warrants a little more effort on their part but my truck was broken into for a $300 deck, and it'll get replaced with a $300 deck.

Re: Clifford 5.5x

If you're imagination and resourcefullness will give me a cool remote that will start my truck, open the doors, and open and close my tonneau cover and pop my tailgate then I want some of what you're smoking....and I want your help working on my truck.

I'm wanting a nice system as much for the accessory control as the alarm itself.

Re: Clifford 5.5x

well i can tell yah cliffords range will not even touch the compustars on its best day,and as far as figity they take a little time to install but they will do everything and more of what other alarms will do,dont know what to say we did over 400 compustar remote start systems this winter and they work great, and there customer service warranty is the best in the buisness they are fast and in most cases will take care of anyproblem u will have .

Re: Clifford 5.5x

The current DEI stuff won't match the compustar's range but that's one of the reason's I started this thread in the first place, the Clifford 5.5x is spread spectrum like the Compustar and is supposed to match it's range, and have quite a bit better feature set. I wonder if Compustar is planning anything new to stay ahead or if they're just going to let DEI leapfrog them?

Re: Clifford 5.5x

compustars technology is the best and still is,that is why maybe clifford is copying something that compustar has had for over 3 years now.Just my opinion clfford dosent really have mutch of a history of real good stuff and u can buy them anyplace but maybe there new stuff is better, but i doubt compustar is gonna change mutch and i know they had a patent on the spread spectrum so maybe the clifford will go close bout i dobut as far or farther ,maybe someone can give us some feed back who has one

Re: Clifford 5.5x

Check out the 5.5x, the remote is pretty slick, much more extensible than the compustar unit IMO. As for patenting spread spectrum wireless, where have you been? It's nothing new and it's a little late to patent it. If compustar really did have a patent on it then clifford wouldn't be able to "copy" them, but it's not copying them, it's well used and proven technology that neither one of them invented. Read the whole thread and you'll see nobody can give us any feedback on the 5.5x yet (that's why I started the thread, seeing if anyone knows when it will be released), as they aren't due out for another month or two.

Follow the link, check it out and tell me what compustar is doing that is such a step ahead? remotes with predefined screens and icons? Who doesn't have that yet? Not that I'm knocking compustar, they are my second choice if the 5.5x ends up being too damn expensive but at least I know the feature set of both, yet it seems you are knocking a product you've never seen nor read up on. Am I missing something here or are you knocking the the DEI unit just because you're selling the compustar? If that's the case, there is no need, they aren't really direct competitors as the clifford is way more expensive than the compustar. Hell, at the price you're offering it for I still may go the compustar route, but not because I think it's a better unit, just that it's a lot more bang for your buck.
