i doubt the pro-stockers are using anything realtively cheap, and it's probably a race only oriented piece.

the problem seems to be finding something with the ability to live on a street driven vehicle.

I use a moroso vac pump on my race car. It is crank driven and made
for a dry sump engine. They do make them for wet sump systems but
they draw less. I have not seen anyone using a electric one. I use #22641
if you want to have a look the link is below. We use vacuum pumps on
these engines because of the large bore *4.625*. In order to keep the
oil rings from going goofy we would have to run allot of tension. With
the vacuum pumps we can run regular tension oil rings and still have
oil control without ring flutter. this gets us about 25 horsepower. I do not
believe you could get one to live on the street as they do need a good supply
of oil on the vanes to keep them from burning up.

i believe it was green who brought up the point of too much pressure in the exhaust actually pushing fumes back into the valve cover. without having a vacuum gauge on the line you wouldn't know for sure.

I believe these systems have one-way valves to prevent this.
