Re: crate engine

You'd have to find a long 4.3 long block and move the syty specific parts over to make it into a syty crate engine.

Re: crate engine

A "Crate Engine" is manufactured from ALL NEW, never-run components. Nothing in a "Crate Engine" has ever been stressed or abused. All components have original clearances and tolerances. Cyl bores are Standard. Crankshafts are Standard. Block decks have never been distorted by multiple heat cycles and loadings from a running engine.

So my position is that SyTy "Crate Engines" aren't available from any source, because NEW components are no longer available to build one. However "Rebuilt Engines" certainly are. And they ship in crates. But in The Vernacular, rebuilt engines are NOT "crate engines".

Hanging around garages for years Ive heard folks confusingly say the following terms:

USED/RECYLED ENGINES (to mean)...
Pulled directly from a vehicle – typically a junkyard vehicle – and generally not surface cleaned. There are no provisions for disassembly, internal cleaning, or inspection with a used engine. Used or junkyard components may have high mileage and a poor maintenance history. Many used or junkyard components come from vehicles involved in an accident or no longer can be licensed and may have unseen damage.

REBUILT ENGINES...
Recondition meaning cleaning, inspecting and replacing severely worn or broken parts. Serviceable parts are reused within the manufacturer’s acceptable wear limits. The quality of rebuilt components varies a great deal.

REMANUFACTURED ENGINE
A remanufactured engine is made as closely to new as possible. All core material – head and block castings, crankshaft, camshaft and rods - may be inspected & checked against original equipment measured specifications for correct dimensional tolerances. Replacement parts are new or reconditioned to meet standards and tolerances. Parts can come from names like
Federal Mogul®, Fell-Pro®, Perfect Circle®, Clevite®, Victor®, Melling® and many more after market companies.

NEW (CRATE) ENGINES
Like Dave says new (or surplus crate) engines usually come equipped with all covers, complete induction system, complete fuel system, complete ignition system, exhaust manifolds, and all block mounted sensors (though the term long-block and short-block makes a difference in what is assembled and shipped).

NEW PARTS (TAKE OUT) ENGINES
Are as complete as new (or surplus) engines but come from vehicles removed from the production lines for QC testing or from vehicles damaged during transit to the dealership. Most have less than 500 miles, with the majority having less than 20 miles. In the old days 7 miles was standard seen from the 3 major factories but this is no longer true.

...anyways your "SH*T-OUT-OF-LUCK" if you want a SyTy Crate Motor.

Re: crate engine

Just sold a complete package. I have a deposit but that's it. Complete with fuel system, stainless headers, full exhaust, front mount intercooler, convertor, and even the tune. If the guy that gave me the deposit doesn't pick it up next week it may be available again. less than 1500 miles on it. Pulled it to swap in a 1500hp 427 stroked & Blown LSx.
