Cylinder head options....

I have a set of vortec heads but thinking about scrapping them for a set of 23 degree GM performance heads. First off does anyone know the cc chamber size difference and cfm rating difference between the two after the vortecs have been worked. 2nd does the sy lower intake still have to be welded to match up to the GM performance 23 degree heads? If there is a thread for this just send me link and I apologize.

Vortecs are 64 cc,you didnt say which Gm heads you're talking about, they range from 45 cc to 72 cc.
Vortecs can be ported to flow close to 290 cfm,GM can heads can flow as much as 320 depending on which head. And yes the syty intake must be modified for both vortec and the GM heads.

Re: Cylinder head options....

If you want better flowing heads, you run the 18 degree stuff, but then all other accessories need to be changed also.
Brodix heads are an option also, -8, -10's, the higher the number the bigger the port volume & better flow. You would need headers also because of the angled spark plugs.

I am sorry. The heads I am talking about are the 18 degree 45 cc GM heads. If the vortecs flow that well is it worth switching to these heads?

Not sure if this helps you but i ran 10.27 on ported vortecs and a stock intake. Just how fast are you looking to go. Id put the money into a good turbo with matching cam myself.

Re: Cylinder head options....

If you want around 300 CFM in flow, the Vortecs are going to be real thin, ready to crack @ any time. They are already real thin when they are made to flow 280 CFM.

Brodix heads can do it & will bolt right onto your stock intake manifold, still need headers though.

Mild ported -8's will flow 280 CFM.

Aluminum heads are easy to repair as compared to cast iron.

A note you will need to have custom headers fabbed for this.

Re: Cylinder head options....

The Brodix exhaust bolt pattern is the same as the stock heads.

I thought all headers are custom?

OK! OK the stock manifolds wont work with brodies. You will need to have headers custom made. Headers are floating aroundout there Kenny bells, ATR, RPM to mention a few most wont fit they are specific to the stock or vortec setups.

Hey what heads are on a 99 s10 had the injectors built into manifold, would this be a good block to build with stock crank?

Someone correct me if I'm wrong but I heard the old KB headers will work with Brodies. . .
