dash removal :: update and new question about installation

Thanks to all for our help in removal. I did get the dash out and am now ready to replace and have a request for tips/tricks on getting the 'new' one in. Is it possible (easier) or impossible (harder than it's worth or just really impossible) to pull the whole dash harness, "pre-assmble the dash with as much connected and mounted as possible and then stick that whole assembly in, reconnect the main harness and be pretty much done... or are there other suggestions about how to proceed...???

Also a question if the harness idea is the way to go - does it disconnect with just the 2 screws on the engine side of the assembly and then you pull the fuse panel out the passenge side of the firewall ??? and, of course replace the same way.?.

Can't find this anywhere in factory manuals (either I'm blind or it just isn't there!) and haven't found anything about this using search so ...

I'm removing Ty dash. I've gotten everything off the front of dash including instrument cluster, radio, pocket, etc. and have removed all the screws I can find that attach the dash to anything but am having trouble getting the driver's side pulled.

I CAN pull the passenger side out from the front of the car enough (8-10 inches) to see clearly behind it. I can "rock" the driver's side 3-4 inches away from front at top OR bottom but can't pull the whole thing straight out. The problem seems to be around the the steering column/instrument cluster and must be either wiring or ducts but I can't get a clear enough view to find what is stopping it from coming out/off .... Any ideas?? .... and/or does anyone know where I could find step-by-step instructions on removing the dash?

I think the wiring harness is attached to the back of the dash in a couple of places. I recall removing the dash as my most painful automotive experience yet.

Thinking of putting it back in makes me cry.

there is a bolt on the inside that it is hard to reach. it is on the on the underside of the right side of the cluster. if u crawl down under u can slightly see it. hard to explain. but yea also the harnes is attached with black tape to the back area where the cluster sits. maybe this can help u out.. http://blazinlow.com/dash.php

justblazin -- thanks for that tip -- will check that out during my next 'session' with the beast. Is it on the right side as you sit and face the dash or as you look at it from underneath?

Of course I didn't know what a PITA it was -- but it doesn't matter as it had to be done.

if u are siting and looking at the dash it is would be on your right side. oh yea do not forget to disconnect the speakers.

After you undo all the visible screws you have to take off the black plastic nobs on the heater controls etc. Undo all the wiring harnesses from heater controls, ligths, rear wiper, etc. Then they're will be two screws one on each side holding the top of the shell to the dash about 3-4 inches in from the top...oh yeah, you have to unclip the fog light and power mirror harnesses.
The first time I took my dash apart it took me like 2 hours or something, now that I've owned my ty for a couple of years it's cake.
