distributer 180 out, among other things!

Re: distributer 180 out, among other things!

good call on the balancer outer ring coming off. I will replace that a.s.a.p along with a new serpintine belt. Thanks for the heads up, I did not realize they occasionally just fell apart. But for now I just want to get the truck running properly. I've yet to actually feel the potential of this truck I've been soft on it so far. So I'm highly motivated to get this thing realiable.

Re: distributer 180 out, among other things!

Ok now I have another problem. Did not disconnect battery, and while I was instaling the valve cover on the drivers side I pinched the black power wire for the alternator in between the cover and the head and as I tightened the cover it sparked and I heard something that sounded like a sizle for a few seconds then went away before I could disconect the battery. The sound seemed to come from the drivers side near the firewall.

Since this happened it will hardly idle and dies soon without gas. It runs extremely rich black smoke, and black soot on spark plugs

checked fuses realized that the last guy had 25 amp fuses in both ecm slots which should be 10 amp
tested the dist. and the ignition module and they checked out good.
replaced the map sensor.
checked continuity from ecu to dist, and from ecu to o2 sensor everything good
does not throw any engine codes other than 12 which means the scan is working

Does this sound like a blown ecu? Or shorted wire somewhere?

maybe a ground strap got fried. A few seconds? wow man - lucky you didn't get a fire.

It common to up the fuse in the ecm spots due to a better fuel pump. 25 might be a bit large but 15 is common over the factory 10's.

Not sure what to tell you on the fryed wire, almost sounds like you killed an ecm.

Re: distributer 180 out, among other things!

Well I replaced the ecm, and the map sensor, found a ground strap from the back of the drivers side head to the fire wall was not connected so I connected it and it still hardly runs and when it does it runs extremely rich still. Really becoming a nightmare. Any other suggestions before I drive it or should I say tow it off a bridge. I will check my brand new msd external coil to see if it went bad when the wire grounded out.

Re: distributer 180 out, among other things!

My truck was very rich due to the brand new coolant sensor being junk. Replaced it and ran great. Check your coolant temp in DM and see if the truck thinks it is sub zero.

Re: distributer 180 out, among other things!

ITS ALIVE!!!!!!!!!!! The culprit was the brand new map sensor. I've been looking every were else but there because I replaced it after I shorted the wire between the valve cover. I still need to replace the balancer and get a datalog. But I finally pulled it out of the garage for the first time in a long while. One of the main things I noticed after my test drive was the intercooler pump is not working so I will look into that next. Thanks for all the help I appreciate all the responses.

Check the fuse above the alt. If that's good, its most likely the pump. Put in a new one, do the hotwire mod, and you'll be set as far as the IC goes.
